Chairman's Award: Chairman's Award - Issue reason: Your outstanding contributions to this community have not gone unnoticed. IN my view you are a worthy recipient of the (rarely used) Chairman's Award.

I once delivered an urgently required box of Ganmain Pies to a café in Ariah Park. If there was a category in those awards for “Fastest Pie” they would have won it.

It's not hard to be fast between Ganmain and Ariah Park

A covid thing but I thought it a bit odd the pies were all judged from being re heated due to being shipped frozen to the venue.

Gaso, probably used a *&^%$ microwave.

You’d think there would have been awards for best cold pie in each category, too.

Fixed.
There was a segment on the channel seven Sunrise program this morning.

I totally agreed with the crew that curried camel, flavoured crocodile and gluten free pies/pasties didn't belong in the same categories as the mainstream products. They should have been in their own separate categories.

I need to get on the judging panel for this event and sort these people out.

From what I understand, the Big Ben pie is no longer available. The name was stolen from my father back in the 70's when he told one of the bakery supply company travelling reps that he was developing a new larger pie range to be named after his brother in-law. My uncle Ben was rather a large unit . The salesman took the idea to Glover Gibbs management and they produced their own version a few weeks later. My dad never got to release his range of big pies under that name because he was wary of litigation from the huge company that stole his idea.

EDIT: Just got told by a workmate that the B B pies are still made.

Passing through Benalla and I thought I would try Bouwmeesters bakery pies on Bridge rd.
Good crispy pastry, a little light in colour but really good strong meaty flavours.

Yeah, I think I'll come here again. No apple cakes yet.

To everyone here, you are making me incredibly proud.

When I originally started this thread, it was only out of personal interest as to how others in AFF appreciated bakery produce.

I can now see that I've created a small sub-AFF community thread with many passionate members willing to share their bakery experiences. This was completely unexpected but is now highly appreciated.

I would like to express my personal thanks to you all for your contributions to our collective bakery passion and I hope that this can continue for many years in the future.

Cheers
Woody

Working in Wodonga and back to Henri's again.
2 meat pies straight out of the oven, a freshly made boiled egg and butter lettuce, pumpkin bread sandwich and this yummo Black Forest roll.
Beaut moist chocolate sponge, fresh cream, chocolate shards and a real cherry coulis center.

I'm really liking the large rolling pin place.
