Disgusting! I thought it was a clever way to show off that car.

This reminds of the Hyundai Santa Fe ad, banned because it showed a baby driving the car!

Is everyone thats complained in this thread about this ad (and others) being banned going to shoot an email off to ASB?

It's a disappointing reaction to what I thought was a clever ad. Maybe they should have included the caption "filmed under controlled conditions" bla bla bla.

i liked that ad when i saw it, it was very well done. I seem to recall an ad years and years ago for i think the toyota celica, pretending to be a shark, flying down a pier then drifting to a halt. I believe it too was banned for hoon reasons. You really have to wonder, seriously.

Well maybe as people that pay tax and drive cars we should fight back. We need a lobby group to stand up for us.

They ban this, but they dedicate whole programs to motorsport and topgear. I reckon there's actually more incentive for idiots to drive faster on the roads after watching motorsport than seeing a Z4 with paint on its wheels. The amount of bogans you see zooming around in their Commodores and Falcons on race weekends is unbelievable. Maybe it's just because I'm in Western Sydney with a higher percentage of bogans. Not saying we should ban motorsport, but come on, some of the stuff they ban is pretty mild compared to hour long programs watched by millions.

Well the only way to fix this is complain that it was pulled.

All they ever here is the wowsers so maybe if every AFF member wrote to them and complained that it was pulled they might change their minds.

This is assuming that we are not all slackos......

Welcome to Australia people... the Nanny country. Sad but true.
Unfortunately we are governed by bureaucrats that pander all and any minorities in the hope of not offending anyone. Did anyone see K-Rudd on Rove last night??

...I really despair.

Where do they find the people who make these decisions. I'm amazed that they can leave their house each day to go to work. Too many dangers out in the real world for them i would think.

I just dont get it

Well I assume these guys would have got the initial complaint.
http://www.advertisingstandardsburea...ges/page38.asp

So you would take it this is where you can complain about the add being removed.

The purpose of advertising is to encourage a behavior - usually a product choice, so as advertising is encouraging us to "do things" lets just ban it outright. We are influenced to do things all the time by peers by family by advertising by television by telemarketers the list goes on and on - an advertisement for a car making a pretty picture is maybe .0000001% of the influences we are all bombarded with everyday think about it really......

Great work removing .0000001% of pressure to behave badly - job well done

Anyone see the complaint that was written in, not sure if this is a snippet of it, or the whole thing, but as follows:

THE COMPLAINT
A sample of comments which the complainant/s made regarding this advertisement included the
following:
I would like to make a complain about and advertisement on Channel 9 screened on 12 May 09.
I am referring to the BMW car advertisement that I believe would encourage car “Hoons”to spin
and burn their tyres on public roads.
You will have to see the full add to understand my complaint and argument. I have already
complained to Channel 9.

So let me guess, they act on one complaint only? If so, I could think of half a dozen annoying ads I could of made a "complaint" on to get banned.

Soon a scalectrix cars will have traction control and be speed limited.

Smash up Derby sets will be sold on the Black Market

Matchbox cars will be defected for low ride height.

All radio controlled cars will be both electric and petrol powered, but will all have to be shaped like a Prius.

Yep the AU add, back then hoons weren't that high up on the radar. The agenda is to slowly only have cars that don't have a capacity of more then 3litres and are only N/A...preferably hybrid.

I'll bet all these wowsers look like the guy off The Chasers that rights the complaints :P

Why don't they pull something completely useless off TV like all those mobile ads for guessing the day you'll die, 'x-ray' scanner, guessing the name of your 'true love', the 'text a or b' competitions etc that are all clearly scams to suck you into a service with a weekly fee.

Spinning the wheels on paint in a private warehouse is against Australian Road rules? I must have missed that one.
