CTP insurance indemnifies vehicle owners and drivers who are liable for personal injury to any other person in the event of a motor vehicle accident
It does not cover anyone's property

Third Party Property insurance covers you for damage your vehicle causes to other peoples property

Comprehensive does the above, and repairs your vehicle.

You hear of people who are still paying off debts for hitting a traffic light or a Mercedes 10 years later
Fair enough didn't know that, thought the CTP was just to make sure every car is insured incase people can't afford Third party or Comprehensive.

Hmm i wonder if captain bligh pays her own rego and fuel bill? Does anyone know the reasoning that ute rego went up even more? Im assuming its because any hard working aussie tradesman who has to own a ute, makes far to much money so they can afford to pay more each year than anyone else. If you are wondering im a builder and a sarcasm expert.

There was some comment a couple of weeks ago that all the prangs by lo-lux's were causing rises in CTP for Utes

smacxr8. maybe an a lie. knows a good % of ute owners don't vote ALP. or she has coped a revving from tradesmen. who have to work in Brisbane ect.
It's all because peter bettoff was the worse premier QLD has ever had.
I will have to hand it to him tho. for being a dam good con man 10 out of 10 there. The selling of ice to Eskimos. was just a spin doctors cover up! The media must be in cahoots with them. F knows were all the $$$$$$ gone!
I would not doubt the so called opposition, must of been payed off to.
One thing i know for sure is that, we QLD's will have to pay for it all. and for years to come. while all have been looking for some sand nigger in the dessert. we have been olso man bin laden.

That sucks. But then when u think about it, so does the Qld government's finances.

And who voted for them? A majority of Queenslanders (yourself included??)

Like the UK labour party, governments here will do whatever possible to destroy their local automotive sector in the name of being green.

It's very hard to find anyone that votes Labor. Perhaps its just the "birds of a feather" story but I only know a few people that [admit to] vote Labor.

I can't fathom another Bligh Government in QLD, certainly not against "Can Do".

Ah, the ancient question. I once asked a friend who worked in insurance if a system could be implemented where if you had full comprehensive insurance you could sign a stat dec and prove you had it, then get the third party property taken off your rego. It could be done, but the government would do themselves out of a lot of money.

Yes, the stuff in your rego covers the other person, but so does my full comp. It covers me for $20 million "damages" of any sort. Change the rules as well that mean if someone is injured, it goes against that part of your insurance. It would be very easy to do...but once again, the government could do themselves out of dough.

The ute question is an odd one...utes used to be the weapon of choice for people trying to pay cheaper rego, as they were "commercial" vehicles and because of the lesser seating capacity you paid a lot less. Now for a ute you pay, paradoxically, more than a car with the same cylinders...

Not to mention in England if your car is over thirty years old (rolling date so this year 1981 is elegible), you dn't pay "road tax" at all...in other words, rego is free...

Well they are elegible for "club rego" here.

I would not be opposed to a system where rego of old cars was really cheap but they MUST be club rego, meaning that old cars would only really be owned and driven by car enthusiasts rather than fleas who do not worry about roadworthyness or safety.

They way rego is calculated up here is a bit weird. It shouldn't really matter how many cylinders etc to work out how much you pay. Everyone uses the road equally really.
If its based on emissions, well how does that work if my XR6 under the Euro emissions regs it was built under puts out a lot less carbon than my wife's 01 Corolla, but yet her rego is cheaper lol

Yes but if older cars were more expensive there would be a scream from the rsl club, poker machine, alcohol and tobacco industries that their income from dole cheque recipients is being eroded......

Comprehensive insurance covers you for your own car and other people's property damaged. In your policy it will state you are covered up to 20 million dollars worth of property damage. This does not cover injury to anyone that you may cause as a result of a motor vehicle accident.

CTP insurance covers you for any injuries you may cause to another person, includes medical bills and such.

I am lucky I'm in Vic, rego here for my 2004 BA GT is the same price as rego for a 2003 BA XT. about $650 a year, that includes everything.

I think they should lower rego a bit, and have annual RWC likw NSW. Would keep the junkers off the road, stimulate the economy with spare parts as old cars head to the wreckers, raise second hand and new car sales, give mechanics more work, raise new spare parts sales, and help the metal recyclers as the really crap cars can still fetch more money than a wrecker will give you if you take it there.

In Victoria you can still claim through the TAC. It does not matter that the vehicle has CTP insurance, registered, road legal or the driver even has a licence.

I know this, because I had a motor bike accident on private property, did not have a licence and the bike was not registered and could not be registered being a quad bike. Only thing was, I had to make police report and had to cop a $1000 fine for rbeing in control of a unregistered vehicle and riding with no licence.

But the TAC did cover the costs involved with this.

I've heard this before but always thought that on private property you were fine.
It seems that most kids on Farms could be booked for driving the paddock basher to the gate for the school bus!!

In Qld they use a term called the "nominal defendant". And its interesting to note from the post 2 up, that a claim can be made by the unregistered person too.

Quote:
The Nominal Defendant was established by the Queensland Government in 1961 as an insurer of last resort, to ensure people injured in accidents by unregistered/uninsured or unidentified motor vehicles have access to compensation.
All states have some similar type arrangement a far as Im aware.

Apparently in Qld, this Nominal Defendant adds to each registration cost, and a fee to recover the costs in covering the HIH collapse, a bill also also picked up by the Nominal Defendant for those whose CTP was with HIH when it went under. In 08-09 it paid out nearly $26 million in claims.
