If you were selling YOUR car would the story be: a) I have had a gut full of it and want something newer and a lot quicker that does not keep breaking down, having to get new bits fitted all the time and gets blown away at the lights by almost everyone. or b) It is an excellent car that has been maintained to a high level. I have spent 1 bazillion on it keeping it is tip top shape, here are the receipts. It is very safe as it is not the sort of car that hoons want. I am only selling it as I need a ute/wagon/porsche/stage coach/elephant for work/family/political reasons. |

Hi AFF
I started this thread to inform everyone of potential fraud - Think I made a mistake. Frankly I only started this thread with good intentions and it seems that I am the victim. I wrote up about an experience. (How is this defamatory?) I have nothing to prove to anyone here and for level of information I have gathered I am personally happy to not go ahead with the purchase at this point in time. Based on the information I have looked up, Inquired and Sellers own words just simply don’t add up to 1+1=2. With regards to my statement pranking him I believe I should have waited till this morning and not started this thread past my bedtime. lol I did call him today pretending im someone else to see if he was genuine but unfortunately again it all seemed too dodgy. I only had doubts about him, I called the auction firm and they confirm the ks on the car. Yes this could very well be his cousins car - but then why tell me different story first time. Change it when I called him today. 3 Different reasons for selling the car; 1. Growing family 2. Moved from Sydney bought business here need a van 3. it’s my cousin’s car This is enough evidence that he was lying to me. Will I report him – Depends after I’ll see what he says to me after couple of days if he comes clean I might still buy the car. As for someone buying it in the mean time frankly it’s not my problem, everyone should do their own due diligence. By some of the posts here I regret starting this thread I started this thread so when you go and buy car be sure to do more homework and just don’t take sellers words. I am currently selling a car on AFF I have mentioned everything frankly. I believe some here have given this thread wrong direction and this wasn’t the intended purpose from me. Flappist – It seems that you have something personal against me or this thread. My information is based on what I have seen, been advised by seller and information provided by auction firm. As mentioned this merely is just experience I thought I share for good. I can see some logic on some of your points however if I have offended you by anything then I Apologise. Feel free to check out the car (I don’t need to) report some facts then I will start an apology thread. You don’t now me from bar of soap I would appreciate you don’t take things personally. Good luck with your buying and selling adventures. ps: I think its time this thread unfortunatly be closed.

you started this thread so you could make others aware of potential fraud, yet if someone buys that car in the mean time, you couldnt care less and its not your problem?
If you could care less about others buying it in the meantime, why bother making this thread in the first place then? How about you stop ringing this guy up and childeshly pretending to be other people, just so you can try and trap him, and instead go and look at the car for yourself and see whats what. Your 3 points dont amount to being evidence at all either. The story might be such that he has moved from Sydney and his cousin let him take his car so he can have a reliable vehicle to move with, then he could sell the car when he gets settled and send the money back to his cousin. This guy also needs a van for his business or growing family or whatever. maybe his cousin owes him a sum of money so the cousin said "take the car and sell it". Now the debt is repaid and then he can buy the van he needs. Theres plenty of reasons why the 3 different things he has said all add up and make sense. Without actually going and looking at the car yourself, you dont have any real evidence. Once you do go and look at the car, and if it does say 86000km, then you have evidence and you should call the Police. |

If I had suspicions of this I would check it out and discuss it with the guy and then report it to the police I brought a car years ago and it was wound back looked good but cost me a lot of money fixing up worn out parts.

Personally I would have worded the thread a little differently. It really should have went along the lines of, "Buyer beware" I looked at a particular car and the Kays don't seem to add up for what ever reasons.
The it'd be upto members on here to keep that in the back of their minds, if they want to look at it. All of the rest seems to added to assumptions of a vendetta.

Have you ever tried to sell a second hand FPV? Sometimes you just have to take a hit when selling cars, sometimes a massive hit. I have sold many good cars, in fact, the reason I’ve sold my last three “good” cars is because I never had time to drive them. I’ve had great difficulty selling many of my cars because they look to good to be true. My GT-P Must have had something seriously wrong with it because it only had 4,900 ks on it when I sold it. That phrase reminds me of the one that goes like “no employer will ever sack a good employee”. I can assure you that if an employee is good to the point of making middle management look incompetent or inefficient, someone will get the sack to either hide a problem or to cover their ar$e.

its great you have found someone "possibly" trying to fool unsuspecting buyers...but now with these new links here and there...all your trying to do is get personal gain on the people here who have told you go to the authorities.
Also to say in one post you started a thread to warn people wth good intentions ...then to say later you dont care if someone buys the car when you contact him in a couple of days really just shows your attitude. Looks like you started this thread to recieve praise for your sherlock holmes detective efforts. Either report him or dont and move on. Thank you for warning us...but really if you want to have "good intentions" like you wrote in a previous post, then report him.

ok so after finding new link and once again confirming ks with auction firm i decided to report this matter.
there is no point waiting to see what his cousin story is and i made my mind that regardless of him coming clean i will not purchase it. i called local station and told them everything i know. their reply "nothing we can do. report it to websites. you have not bought tnis car no case for us to charge him with deception. i know i will get flamed but i already predicted this outcome. i have let car sales too.

did anyone confirm it wasn't just a typo? does the odometer actually read 100000km less or is it a simple typo?

Either way I think some people are giving the threadstarter a hard time. The car is advertised falsely, whether it is a typo or not, the seller is wasting potential buyers' time because he/she couldn't proof-check the ad that they are paying for. Idiot. Secondly I believe that over the phone the seller lied about the kilometres on the car. It is not a difficult task to approach the car, unlock the car and check the kilometres. Thirdly the seller is pushing different stories about the sale and the circumstances behind the sale, which again do not match the description on the advertisement which again is falsely advertising the vehicle. The seller is a clown and a complete waste of time, these idiots shouldn't be posting up ads if they have no competence at all in conveying accurate information to buyers who are otherwise wasting their time and effort looking into this car. I'd report this idiot if not for fraud, simply for stupidity. The fact that you were told over the phone that the car had 86k confirms enough for me; they've either tampered with the vehicle or tampered with information about the vehicle to lure you in and waste your time OR in the hope that you don't notice and end up buying the thing under false pretenses. |

I can relate to the thread starter. I have had similar experiences when car hunting including dodgy repairs and wound back clocks..... it's incredibly frustrating. When I was purchasing I would have welcomed ant feedback such as you have given here.
divine afg: don't pay to much attention to people who are giving you a hard time on here. I appreciate the heads up mate. I am sure all of those who are knocking you would be singing a different tune in they purchased the car prior to reading your posts......... |

Yeah ... I think its run its course. It really does boil down to buyer beware as there are just so many out there willing to do 'bad' things to make as much money as possible.
I always look at a cars condition and determine how many k's it looks like it has done and then compare with the odometer. Boought and sold enough to know the difference between a well used and a low k car. And by the way ... I would have sold 20 plus cars and bought crap loads over the years and most have been good. Don't know where that theory came from. I usually sell because I am bored with it, lease runs out or just want a change of colour. Only car I have moved on with fingers crossed was an Audi. | [/url] |

In regards to the OP, it does seem fair dodgy and it is good you did the homework before buying, good luck with the relevant authorities.
