Was gonna wait for the iPhone4 but IMO i think it will have it faults like the first one, so i just went and got a new 3GS 3 weeks ago.

The new features look great. I especially like the longer battery life. Means I can play Angry Birds 40% longer. Win win.

5mp camera, 1ghz snapdragon processor running on open source (no apple nazi-ism here) android. has full flash support, the works.
Not a fan of the desire, got customers with issues with activesync with them..But they are needing it for a corporate environment.. Issue (wireless / 3g) issues are reported all over the world, which is a shame, they had a lot of promise..

I am running a HTC HD2, I love it, wont be upgrading for a while..1ghz processor works well for me too (I need to run a lot of programs at once..).

Gonna be a while before i am on board the apple boat...

Doesn't the version 4 address the faults of the current 3GS ??
V4 looks good - better camera - better battery - better looking and better call quality with noise cancellation etc etc......

iPhones generally have pretty good reception compared to most run of the mill mobiles, but having said that yes it will have improved reception.

I think your main problem is being on Optus; get with Telstra if you want the best reception...
I am all over the place with work and my interests... always on full 3G reception.

I had similar problems on Voda and fixed it by getting a new sim.

I'm with you on this I sell these at work and am trying to choose between this and the Blackberry Bold 9700.

Was waiting for Iphone 4 to sway me but I see no extra value in it.
Reception doesn't worry me mine will be on the Next G network and I'll be purchasing a car charger so battery life won't be to much of a problem for me.

I hope it's better than the Touch Pro 2 which I'm forced to use for work. That thing is absolutely horrendous to use. Though it does make me appreciate how many things Apple got right with the iPhone.

Finally the iPhone no longer looks like it is made for women! Probably going to upgrade to this from my N97 as the contract expires soon, looks like an awesome phone (especially now since apple finally allows multitasking).

iPHONE 3G will not support multi-tasking, only the 3GS <---- straight from apple website. Guess its due to 3GS having faster chip than the 3G

There's a little thing called jailbreak. My 3G supports multitasking right now ;) not that I ever have the need for it...

I used to hate them with a passion, however after playing with one and looking at things such as "do I really 'care' that it doesn't have flash" (as this seemed the main point that was spat at me by my developer friends who have an un-natural hatred for any apple product) I concluded that it wasn't actually half bad, at least the 3GS model.

Considering I jumped into a pool with my last phone, an E71 (contact isnt up until the end of the year *sigh*) I can't wait till version 4 comes out so I can have a 'decent' phone again.

So what does the new iPhone have? Video calling? 5MP camera with all the trimmings? Hi-res video? Multitasking? My second-generation Nokia N95 8GB did all that (and then some) fresh out of the box more than two years ago.

When I do upgrade, it'll be to the N9.

Exactly. Consumers are quite strange when it comes to Apple products.

Personally, I think I'm going with anything that has Android. I'm really enjoying that.

This comes to mind:

Its the "successor" of the N900. But Nokia's usually dont have much in common in series. N96 Vs N97, etc... Its a new phone

Apple does have a way of making users believe that they've pioneered features on their iPhone... that have been available for quite some time on other phones.

One thing I will give them, at least in my experience, the use of those features appear to be a lot more elegant on the iPhone.

A few for instances... one thing I applauded that my iPaq didn't seem to grasp was to turn the touchscreen off when I was on a call. I couldn't tell you how many times my ear would hangup a call on my iPaq. I now use a HTC Touch Pro 2 and when I call in about jobs, I have to go through an automated procedure to speak to a human. Ok, it turns the screen off but it also goes back to the home page so I have to press phone, keypad (or at least try to as the touchscreen may as well be called a randomscreen) to do it.

Another, when I get my jobs they sync through exchange to my HTC. I automate a sync on my home machine to google calendar and have my iPhone sync it through push. On the HTC, I might be able to capture the phone number but that's it. On the iPhone, I can dial the contact, email the contact and look up their address on googlemaps by just touching the relevant section.

Elegance.

Yeah probably true but the 4G is 'new' so maybe it may do, ive only had my 3GS 3 weeks and i havnt seen any faults yet except the battery life but thats life.
Im sure the 4G will be an awesome phone no doubt but my 3GS will do me for a while. Does everything i need it to do.

iPhone ... infact iAnything is typically a very pretty and usable wrapping around what the industry already accepts as a bare minimum.

Aside from the apps, compare any iPhone to a competitor and it will not compete, but it will outsell - "Form over function"

In the old Days Apple was the underdog, and had a superior product.

If I compare it to the functionality of my work phone, my iPhone smashes it. If you were to line up the specs of each phone, the Touch Pro 2 probably beats it but then it's probably a newer generation than my 3G so it's hardly surprising. Considering I use my iPhone for all my work tasks bar making phone calls (simply because I don't want to pay for work calls) is testament to how much more usable the phone is compared to the HTC I'm burdened with.
