Even prior to the Tri-Motor, Ford was working on a small plane intended to be the "Model T of the Air." It was a little monoplane with a three-cylinder engine.

It was one of Edsel's pet projects. There were two configurations. One had longer wings than the other. The plane was called the Ford Flivver ("flivver" was a nickname for Model Ts, but I've never seen an explanation of how that came to be).

Anyway, a test pilot flying one crashed and was killed, and Henry canceled the project. The Tri-Motor was a much more successful project. If you've seen Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom you've seen one in action in the opening sequence!

And here's the Ford Flivver:

Nope, its pure myth.

The myth started with add's in the 1920's and the logo was regisited in 1917(?)
