i mean the new one produces torque from low in the revs. The peakiness (and fun trying to wring its neck) is whats fun about the current clio rs. That I would say will be gone.

Small hatches with bulk torque everywhere are fantastic fun. Nothing like smashing through some hills and being able to hold a gear from 1,500 - 7,000rpm and not need to change gears while still making bulk torque all the time. The other advantage is it makes them easier to like with every day. Nothing worse than a little car with no torque around town. It's an absolute pain in the ***.

yes lacking torque sorta makes it a sole purpose car when it`s limited to high revs all the time to have some fun, even in the cut and thrust of big city traffic it tends to wear a bit thin when you have to rev the bits off it to make a gap in the traffic, while a big torquey sedan will just surge into that gap in the traffic with 20% throttle and no effort, minimal wear and tear.

^^hmm. Yeah sitting in 3rd and revving between 1500 to 7000 sounds like great fun... id rather be smashing it through the gears with heaps of peaky revs. Thats why the old clio rs was the great car it is and why it will be missed.

Try driving a new golf gti and then a clio rs 2.0 Na at the track. Golfs are an absolute bore. Thats just me anyway.

I've got a Polo GTi and have had high revving NA's before. The turbo is over 9000 times more fun on a twisty road for mine. I do like a high revving NA, don't get me wrong, but I enjoy the turbo more.

What a great looking little Renault, as Big Damo said the French know how to do FWD (and eccentricity to boot!). Why Renault doesn't sell more in Australia is perplexing, maybe this will help.
Disclosure: parents had a 12 Virage wagon, boy could it handle, loved dirt, very comfortable seats & suspension, parts were expensive, servicing was expensive, retained value was not much at all. But it was loved. I'll have to mention it to my Mum

Seriously, you know not of what you are saying. My Pug is 10 x more reliable that either of my Falcon's ever were and it's also a hell of a lot cheaper to fix than even my EL.

Nice looking thing this Clio, although I think the new Pug 208 GTi will have it covered.

Drove one today ....

Brilliant little car, quality materials inside, quality fit and finish, great character, tight, quiet, and funky styling.

The Fiesta is definitely a generation behind this beauty and feels cheap. The Clio size wise seems to fit in between the Fiesta and the Focus.

This looks like a great little car for wifey
