That's what I'm thinking it is - there is some issue or something holding them up with the back half of the T6 bodywork or design, they can't afford to wait any longer and need to get the attribute prototypes done and validated by a certain time. Not surprising seeing as the back half of the SUV will have unique panels to the ute.

It would be a chassis engineering vehicle. The body work on it would irrelevent, as they are just testing the suspension, braking, handling etc on real roads.
The full bodywork ones would only be floating around the Ford proving ground for the time being, away from prying eyes.

The similarities of the door shapes is interesting, maybe going forward they would want to have a common casting for both ( assuming they want to modular like VW). Since the Thai plant is flat out meeting demand for Ranger, what a coup it would be to have T6 SUV built here!!!
Then maybe a soft-roader Territory derivative too, assuming Falcy disappears :( |

Yes I tend to agree to a certain extent. It did look quite good and if they matched the panels in properly it might even have it over the current Territory for front end looks.
I'm not sure if it was petrol or Diesel. I'll have to have a read up on the Everest. |

The rims are 6 bolt. That means it's a Ranger drivetrain front to back doesn't it?????? Back seats are missing too.
Is the Ranger going to replace the Territory???? A Ranger based SUV????

That should have been the replacement for the Explorer. 3.5L V6 EcoBoost in that thing would be awesome. 270 kw/570 Nm. Up it to 300/650 just for fun.

I've seen a pic of a red one as well (with a white rear bumper). Very similar bodywork, had the brushes too, so I'm guessing there are several of these developmental mules getting around at the moment.

Great catch. As Brazen pointed out, it seems that Ranger "wagon" is slightly narrower then a Territory based on how a fairly complete rear end of a Terry has been grafted on and no cutting down the middle axis was made to shrink the Terry rear onto the Ranger front half. The C-pillar of the Terry looks to be double the normal size here with an insertion of some panels to create the extra length. So the Ranger wagon looks to be a fair bit longer then a Territory.

I think they have just put the Territory rear on it, so they can test it & not give away what it actually looks like. |

Yes sounds like a completley plausible reason. Hence the underbody brushes seem to be there also to hide the underbody components (Running gear etc) which has been mentioned.

what gets me is the fact the ranger is available in right hand drive so why the need for it ( the test mule ) to be in left hand drive
I saw these cars driving around geelong about a week ago there were 4 of them though 2 white and 1 red and a blue one

this i follow with great interest....... cross between ranger and territory would be perfect to replace the pajero in 2 years! i know its a long way off but i think that would be awesome!
