i have the same, twin 2.5 and no balance, no x, no resonator, just two straight through mufflers not glass packs, theres a certain rev range atm where it barks something cronik, not the nicest sounding, but i think thats because its a huge exhaust on stock headers cats and motor.

This dude is on the money. 2.25" is the ducks guts for the 5L, and they absolutely need a balance pipe. 2.5" would work well from the headers and in the mid section, but the tailpiece must be 2.25". Making the pipe smaller as the gas travels encourages flow.

It's painful watching so many people fit an exhaust which is too big, using the mentality that because a race car has it, so should my road car...

Dual 2.25" to the center mufflers, then dual 2" tail piece.

If ford would have used decent straight through mufflers it would have flowed quite good.

thanks sox..
im currently running hurricane headers, 2.5" 100 cel cats, 2.5" merge into a single 3" with xforce muffler and a generic hot dog at the rear, its a 220kw with std bottom end and trickflow 170 heads.. I have been considering going to a duel system, its just the matter of 2.25 or 2.5 and wether or not to run a H pipe or x pipe cross over... |

My 5.6L Windsor has dual 2.5" to the middle and dual 2.25" tail piece. The method of balance pipe isn't really important, so long as it has one.

http://www.fordforums.com.au/attachm...7&d=1423959668 What about 2.5 crush bend rear section as you can see its reduced the diameter of the pipe /?? would this be ok?? with an added xpipe

It's all about keeping exhaust velocity high in the most used RPM range.

Not an AU but a 5l nonetheless, my EL runs a twin 2.25" with no merge pipe, metal cats, a straight through muffler then 2 resonators at the back. Happy with it.

Problem with 2.25 is that it then becomes custom? What off the shelf system is there in that size?

Thats the only issue with it,can become pricy to get a custom mandrel bent twin system done,i think thats the only reason most go with twin 2.5 off the shelf.
I only just got a new exhaust for my eb,only off the shelf options were 2.5 or 3 inch single or twin 2.5 with no x pipe,i would have loved a twin 2.25,i know its not a 220 xr8 but my motor pretty much has 220 heads, cam, manifold(not t/b)sounds almost identical. |

you would be looking at over a 1000$$ to have a custom 2.25 twin with 2 x mufflers and xpipe
2.5 twin with 2 x mufflers easily accessible at a wrecker 2nd hand for 200$$ and probably about 120$$ to 200$$ to install

But without going to pick a part what is the cost of a 2.25 cat back?
I saw Manta had a 2.5 dual for about $950. Ill have to measure mine.

i had a couple of AU XR8's,
3in single 2 mufflers, sounded crap duel 2.25 with chambered mufflers no balance pipe, great note but quiet put on 2 hotdogs, loud and flappy put on a balance pipe, loud and less flappy but too loud really put on 2 redback straight throught mufflers, nice note but think these without a balance pipe would be great and last one was a 220kw with 3in single and sounded flat and boring so all in all if i did it again i'd use a duel 2.5, 1in balance pipe, and a single oval resinator each side placed at the back if they fit

Does anyone have any clips of the Manta setup?
Mines pretty loud and droney at the moment, no idea what brand it is though. I was after something a bit more refined.

My understanding is it isn't very quiet, but the only guy I know running it is FTW-302. I think he might have some clips, perhaps drop him a PM?

Picked up 9rwkw with it though so it made excellent gains for nothing but a catback over the previous single 2.5. |

You might find a new system to be a bit less than that too, perhaps as low as $800. And, I wouldn't have thought a good 2.5" dual exhaust system is common from a wrecker.

manta use combinations of mufflers, resonators, hotdogs and straight pipes in the middle section and tail pipes, so many different combinations can be made

FWIW I had a Difillippo system on my last XR8 and it was good, but it was a single 3" also.
