I have 2003 VY Ecotec Wagon with 200,000 kms. I'd keep mine because:
- load carrying capacity. I carry two large dogs. I can't see anything modern that can do the same job (that's not SUV) - very reliable, great economy on highway (around mid 8's). - doesn't do large kms, I catch public transport during the week - like Australian cars - nice to drive - can't justify buying new car when existing does great job If was to buy later model I would like to get last of the Holdens (e.g. Calais V). I'd still keep wagon as it is great car, like the shape, purchased it new and alway looked after it. It comes handy when you need to carry stuff. |

Firstly "I own it", second, I love to drive it.
Plus theres the fact that once you've owned them for a while it becomes "inherited knowledge". You learn all the little traits, you know what I mean, you know what to expect when you turn the key. Take my previous ride, my '85 XF s-pack. I had that puppy for 10 years & left no stone or bolt unturned. I trusted it with my life. It got me across Australia & the Nullabor twice, now that's a level of trust you can buy from a dealer! |

Have kept the Focus because so far in the near 8 years of having it it has been faultless (except for the morons who keep running into it). The car is a gem to drive, handles well, sounds great and best of all it is a comfortable drive.
In saying that I am looking to sell it this year.

Actually I have two primary cars, and I keep them because I have no reason to get rid of them. They're both paid for and they're both reliable. One of them will turn 20 in about 2 months.

Although I've only had the XR8 for 2 weeks, this is a car I will keep for many years. What else can I buy new, that has the performance and comfort I need, with plenty of space and brings a grin to my face? Sure, I could consider a Mustang, but 2 doors ain't gonna work for me. Chrysler 300 SRT8, maybe but I just don't feel it. The more I look around, the more I realise that it will take a long, long time for something else to make me want to buy another car.
Don't be surprised if I still have this car when I retire...

Likewise. I've thought about buying all sorts of new cars, but I know that I wouldn't bear to part with my car.
I'm fond of the new Mondeo and would love to get one, but if I do, it'll be my second daily alongside the BF instead of a replacement.

I just bought my 'new' car. A BF3 wagon with 135,000k's and already lowered with nice wheels and exhaust. Just found out i need to replace trans oil cooler before it milkshakes so i'm up for about $600 to fit a kit. (May even fit one myself if not to hard) but after that it should be all smooth sailing as I will service it myself.
I am planning on keeping this car for 10 years and I will be the owner of one of the LAST Ford wagons ever built....Who knows it may actually be worth something in 10 years time??? |

One's a Ghia, one's a ute, both are V8's, both are N9 navy, both are last half '97 models. Far from consider selling 'em... I just may continue buying and corner the market. Bwahahaha

got an AU wagon that just ticked over 300,000... the old man had the car since new and (almost) been totally hassle-free motoring
thing looks like ****, interior is pretty stuffed in places reason for keeping it? well its fuss-free to drive, ok enough power in most situations, decent on fuel, but the main reason is my dad would kill me if I sold it or allowed the registration to expire, so for now it's either put up with owning two registered cars, or put up with a very angry old man, the latter will eventually win out doesn't help my dad isn't a car guy and his brain can't comprehend wanting to own something fast

I have grown a bond over the last 10 or so years and spent at least 3 or 4 times what my car is worth in suspension and driveline mods/repairs.
Even though the body isnt the best around i get comments about it all the time. Id rather take to my eb with a 9 inch grinder and cut it into tiny pieces than sell it to someone who wont give 2 ***** about it! |

When we first met, all shiny and new of the showroom floor, she was polite, calm, and behaved. Now she is Bad, Loud, mis behaving, full of attitude, a bit like my wife really and I like it like that.

for my 2010 territory which i bought new with no finance - the depreciation & the fact its only done 52ooo kms.
i dont stress about depreciation, its not as if Its something I wasnt aware of when buying - especially when buying new :-)

Prime example .my daughter in law wanted to trade her Focus in for Fiesta Ecoboost..
Told it was worth $400 trade in.. We kept it as we've seen many sell for way more than that.. Even in there own yard for $4,999 ..

I've always just had one car at a time because that's all I can afford.I got $1 trade-in for my XF when I got the AU wag.Some people's property are littered with rusting wrecks which can be good for parts.

I'm keeping mine now coz I have to. I've been wanting to get a GT. My step-father was going to take my XR6 and take over the repayments, but now I find myself in a spot where I just need to keep it, pay it off, then put that money to better use (house)

It's faster and cheaper then a new one, plus I like the colour.
Upgrading all the time is a mugs game anyway.

I have pulled this one completely apart , rebuilt it detailed it and now it is better than new.
For a 10 yr old car that ford made so many cost cuttings and mistakes with i can't see it swapping hands for at least another 10 years This thing has character, goes hard and internet trolls hate it |

after 21 years there is a bond / a connection that comes from inside. Its the sound,the smell ,the acceleration, its the clove like fit between you butt and the seat ,its knowing what she needs,and also knowing what she will give,,,its the tingling feeling you get when you open the garage door
i never really understood it when people used the word priceless ,,,now i do,,after countless trips throughout OZ,,numerous track days,,toeing,,and just cruising around,,i know my Sprint is priceless to me. |

Hear Hear Dave. It's only 6 years now with our Sprint but you definately get all those experiences, and have that knowledge. For me unless new, it takes me a couple of years of listening and bits of work before I can 'feel' the car as my own. The other bonus is when the better half (who's a country girl & I suspect a rev head) says 'Keep the Sprint, as I love the sound, the acceleration, the gears, the character...'
I find I go out to the garage to watch it shine and check out the rims (original) from time to time... how did they shoe-horn all that kind of beastiness into a humble family sedan?

Only sold my '03 SV8 this year 'cos my wife was moving onto a Triton for towing the horsefloat and I inherited her '09 XR6 ute .. I want/need a ute (I was always borrowing hers)
The SV8 was comfortable, reliable, and I owned it. Did everything I asked of it, and it was basically I'd rather the devil I know than I one I didn't (especially if I went to a secondhand car) At least I know what the XR6 is like. Time will tell if I keep it anywhere near as long as the SV8 .. one of the reasons is that it's not a V8 which makes me sad .. |
