I have said that before and agree. The smartest thing ford did was to introduce and establish a replacement before ending the falcon. Righto, the mondeo may not go as good in a straight line or whatever, but atleast it's an established car over here and whilst there is no Miami in it it will suit the family buyers. The go harder people atleast have the mustang to fall back on. Again, it was released before the axe fell on the falcon production. Considering there hasn't been a media influx of conflicting stories of corvettes or camaros being introduced, I'm sticking with the ghia and g6 for the time being.

"Very interesting to see how this will effect Holden now that most of their cars are rebadged opels." Yes very interesting now the frogs will have control and we have a Peugeot/Citroen/commodore. I wonder were there any contracts signed off on 2018 models? Even more interesting for the Supercars teams. LOL I owned a little peugeot seven years ago. Handled, economical, just you didn't want to replace a radiator hose. The lower one was snaked through the front chasis rail, wished I had my old Stanza then. Bought my current XR8 soon after. |

They should retire the Holden name altogether. What is Holden anyway? Nothing without manufacturing. Just an importer sticking their badge on other makers' cars.

How many brands in the automotive world don't actually manufacture any cars themselves?
This will be Holden's position from Oct this year. How many other brands are in the same position? |

I know that at work, we use a aviation approved fastener that is clearly labelled "Australian made" on the box ( South Aus company ), but we know that they come from Pakistan via USA, and they don't come with a Paki price . Most new car buyers have no idea where their car is manufactured, so Holdens will always be seen as "Made in Aus .... Somewhere". |

Anyone seen the resale value of Peugot's lately compared to an old Holden.

Does anyone think GM will get rid of Holden now? They're a bit redundant. GM wont profit from them and there's no manufacturing to take advantage of.

a ford is a ford anywhere in the world. same with most other brands. holden is unique to australia and from october this year, will no longer manufacture anything, so i'm wondering if there are any other brands that simply badge cars but don't actually make any? |

Chevrolet would be the only viable name to change to, but, that's at the expense of almost 70 years of brand development and over a 100 years of historical value.

I think it's a huge possibility. The commodore is the car most synonymous with Holden, and with articles around talking about Holden wanting to 'de-bogan', well, with no Holdens being made in the country anymore, what better way than to ditch the Holden name completely?

Holden have come out and claimed this sale won't effect their current plans. While that may be true in the very short future, it will have a huge impact when the models are due for facelifts and replacement with all new models. Are PSA going to want/let Holden have any input into the cars they make? Or will they say this is what you are getting, you can stick your crappy kitten badge on it and that's it? |

Doubt it. Wouldn't make much sense to abandon our market, as long as they keep it profitable.

It will take a number of years before the French influence starts to become noticeable on the Opel products. By that time GM will source cars from other GM plants for Holden.

I have a prediction: GM will abandon on the remaining RHD markets in around 8 years, and focus only on US and China. |

I've read a few articles to try and work out what's happening with Holden, & as far I can figure out they don't know themselves.
Below hot air article claims Holden will have more options, but doesn't explain how. http://www.news.com.au/finance/busin...57b13a3f2f4d27

There could be another, more positive side coming out of this.
Holden have a design & engineering center here, it might receive more work...
