There will be a Rubicon model with Dana 44s, lockers, swaybar disconnects, 33s...will shyte on most dual cabs then in most off-road conditions. Definitely a lifestyle rig. Nice.

You don't Buy one of these to be practical round the streets, but saying that it looks perfect for a lifestyle rig.
I like - especially with the V6 diesel

Out of proportion. And poorly styled, or should I say not styled, around the rear window. It's square. But then again there's not much they can do with the boxy body. The body shape doesn't suit having a long tray hanging off the back imo.

It does look a little strange, but I think a black one with a nice canopy will look tough as.
Add a few aftermarket mods that many Wranglers have, like a nice bullbar and I think it will look great.

EUROPE’S independent New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP) has awarded Jeep’s new fourth-generation Wrangler a lowly one-star safety rating, saying it lags far behind its competitors on safety.

In its comments on the adult protection crash testing, Euro NCAP’s engineers criticised the structural integrity of the Wrangler, describing the bodyshell as unstable.

They said the join between the A-pillar and trans-fascia beam had been damaged in such a way that indicated it would not be able to withstand higher loads. The footwell, it said, had “reached the limits of its structural integrity”.

In the offset test, driver chest protection was rated as weak, while leg protection was marginal.

In the full-width crash test, the rear passenger protection was rated as poor – the lowest rating – while driver chest protection was marginal.

Has any of its competitors actually done a recent test?
I thought EuroNCAP was recently made a lot harder.

Yes 1 star is bad. But I would be interested in knowing how many stars it would have been a couple of years ago.

Yes the Merc X Class. Possibly others.

But the new tests are only harder because of the addition of passive safety systems like AEB, lane assist etc. The Jeep failed so badly because of the way it crumpled so badly. So it still wouldn't have done well.

Those are active safety features. I’d still have one. I’d feel safer on the muddy or snowy trail in a Rubicon than a Volvo station wagon.

So this thing starts at $75,450. That’s bloody expensive. And no diesel.

Yeah my brother was looking at one of these but the price has changed all that, you're going to be looking at close to $85K on the road for a base model.......Ridiculous money for what it is.

I was referring to australia. Not the us. It will be a tiny seller here.

But then again everything jeep is like cancer here. Nobody wants it. Went from selling 30,000 cars a few years ago to less than 6,000 last year. Massive fall.

When they released the updated Jeep Grand Cherokee they were everywhere, every man and his dog had one, now you hardly see them around anywhere, probably all already sitting in wreckers because every small maintenance item costs $26,000

Yeah, that version of the VM Motori diesel was prone to going ding without warning,
they cost a lot of bucks too and I doubt Jeep would stand by customers.....

Reports are suggesting that the Gladiator is not selling as well as expected in the US, Jeep are now starting to discount to help them move.

With regards to Australian pricing, those prices are about what I was expecting. Having a petrol engine is certainly a differentiator but without diesel, this thing is going to sell in very small numbers.

I don’t really get the point of it. It’s fairly useless as a ute, cause it can’t carry much weight nor tow much.

Same analogy applied to Ranger Raptor?
Both utes, both have similar payload and towing specs (although this Jeep is rated to 3.5t and 800kg payload in the USA).

I can see it appeal to existing Wrangler owners that like the concept, quirkinesses and off road ability but want a higher towing capacity and more space (normal Wrangler has pathetic load space).

Or someone in the market for a Ute that is actually decent off road without a throw back to the 1980s in ride quality, handling, performance, ergonomics and equipment levels of the 70 series.

Considering the current crop of high end Thai specials (Ranger Raptor excluded, by most accounts) are seriously over priced but don’t excel in any aspect, it is no surprise Jeep have tried to cash in on this overpriced emotionally driven segment.

Disappointing it won’t be sold here with the V6 diesel, or Jeep couldn’t offer the Rubicon with the Hemi V8.

Gladiator is based off mid sized Wrangler.
Also,
Ram and GC now have fully reworked V6 diesel
that fixes all the failure prone areas, it’s a lot tougher.

Let’s just say that the sales numbers for gladiator has been a little underwhelming, Gladiator was all about giving Jeep buyers what
they were asking for but now Jeep seems to be developing the
Gladiator Mojave as a counterpoint for a future US Ranger Raptor.
