hi
noticed a few vy/vz on market place that look very nice with a defect notice and wondered what would hidden reasons likely be and why owners likely didnt fix what was needed on a otherwise nice car, can think of following reasons. 1. maybe had blue parkers. 2. maybe too low 3. had to get their quotas up so were looking for something and randonly picked a nice car. 4. frayed seatbelt what would likely reason be why this vy got a defect and owner likely didnt clear it https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...3623044812705/ https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...7516884259041/ https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...3856784311862/ https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...1329369285509/ theres also a ba https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...5428697520377/ https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...6513909179929/ and a statesman in the vt/vx vintage https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...1155164577739/ says too low but owner didnt put it back same height and cleared it https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...5750032695701/ there was also a pajero as well https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...6513386882611/ at upullit theres a few defected cars that look like theyre too good and a territory probably 05 with a sticker. wondering if some of them were on lpg and the tank was out of date it seems more holdens than fords even though its possible for any to get a sticker. The headlights are one obvious fault in that pic, but looking at hoe the car appears to have been looked after, there could be a hundred faults

Probably because it's a really high miler with too many things wrong beyond the value of the car. Example, if the air con isn't working, theres a couple of grand combined with an oil leak, forget, wreck it.
All about economics.

My BA was 2 years old back in 2006, the police defected the car because they can. They found faults, such as seatbelt not retracting quick enough, hand break had to many clicks. My BA was stock no mods except rims from Bob Jane that the dealership put on the car before I purchased. As I said above, if they want to defect you they will find something to defect you on and it will not matter the age of the car. |

Were these police being pointy, or were "other" factors involved? |

Either they have the money and can't justify the cost, or they don't have the money.

Probably several reasons people don't clear the defects but at the end of the day I think all those reasons come back to the dollar factor.
Using the silver Commodore in your post as an example - Let's say Bert bought the car new and then covered say 250-300 thousand kms in it and it's been a pretty good car for him. He then goes to trade it in and is offered $1500 for it. Bert thinks, 'Hang on, I paid 38 thousand bucks for this. No way I'm trading it for that, I'll keep it and sell it privately for $3500.' He still takes the delivery of his new car anyway and takes the old Commie home and lists it on Gumtree. The trouble is it's got a few oil leaks and other issues and so is listed as being sold as is. The remaining few months of rego is fast running out and Bert doesn't want to renew it because he never drives the thing anyway. He's had no buyer interest and comes to the realisation that the car is probably not worth what he thought it was. He's also sick to death of moving it back and forth so he can mow etc. By now he just wants the thing gone and sells it for a grand. Travis the P plater buys it for a grand with a bit of rego left and takes it to his mate's workshop for a 'wink and a nudge' roadworthy and away he goes. Cheap motoring. He doesn't fix the original issues and after abusing it for another 18 months it's got several more. He gets pulled up one night after pulling a big skid as he leaves Macca's and cops a defect notice for the multiple issues it has. He looks at his car which is now covered in scrapes, dings, half-baked modifications courtesy of Supercheap Auto, and a list of defects which will cost him $2000 to have fixed. Travis is a barista and is certainly no mechanic, so he just doesn't have the capacity to rectify the defects himself - so off to Pick-a-part she goes! A couple of pays later and Travis is back on Gumtree searching for a replacement. They're as cheap as chips to buy and there are lots of them available - and so it goes! |

I think they defected every car that night. Basically they put a checkpoint at the end of the car park and every single car had to go through. Lucky enough it was just the defect and no fine. |

"Travis the P plater" sounds like an actual Travis I once knew, and did the exact same thing. Only it was a XD, done for a skid in front of a pub and rust issues.

Ahh defects. The last time i got nailed was in 04. The officer was nice to me and i was polite, passed the attitude test. I thought i was off, then he says seeing as he pulled me over, can he have a look. But, everybody knows a guy, back on the road by the afternoon. I only got pulled over as it was P plates on a v8 and whilst my licence was unrestricted, it was when newer P platers werent allowed to drive turbo petrol anything, performance 6s or v8s. I failed to mention the mini spool in the diff, so atleast i got away with something. The fine cost me $90 and a $36 inspection. Kind of glad after that i only got pulled up for breathos and licence checks. The only reason that car passed rego inspections was, well, everbody knows a guy. And the mechanic (s) always drilled in passed at the time of inspection. And also drive my car for a few days after, just so if i get pulled up in the ute i 'had' time to re modify it... Rust is different though. I dont think sorry officer i fixed the rust and it re rusted would float.

noticed one on marketplace with a regency defect for shockers and another one with a regency one for seatbelt and battery clamp and another one with a regency one for a couple little things. do yous recon the owners pulled a skid or did something else wrong to ask to be pulled up and police then notice these things.
or yous think more likely a rbt. came back to kadina from moonta and there was a vr/vs holden pulled over and seen a defect sticker, not sure why, would one that looks rough but is otherwise good be likely to get a sticker or be ok if its good apart from looking a bit rough |

Would it have been a rbt or more likely owners did something wrong and police pulled them over and were looking to find something or more likely had to get their quotas up.
Which would it have been |
