Saw one in the flesh yesterday. Nice looking car. Very swish. To me anyway.

The Problem with Hyundais are the Made in Korea label that they come with. They are cheaply made, but I have not driven one, so I can't pass judgement there. I will agree it looks similar to the IS200/300 in the front. I had to look at mine in the garage to confirm that, but the IS looks better overall, and it looks a MUCH better quality car.

I may have to have a look at one of these, but if the Excell is anything to go off, they are cars that are bought to throw away when the warranty runs out. They are not meant to be kept for anything. If that was the case, the resale value would be better. Just an observation. One other thing, 170KW from the front wheels? What are they thinking?

huyndai are one of the only car companies ive seen of late that are actually LEARNING from their mistakes.
if you have taken any notice, whenever they bring out a seccond edition of something, it is hugely different from its predecessor.
i think this alone is what is killing the hyundai resale, much more than the "hyundai label"

I knew I would get flamed for that, but Mitsubishi et al need to learn that front wheel cars are for 4 cylinder and low power 6 cylinder cars only. Have you ever seen a FWD V8? Neither have I. The torque out the front wheels would make the car impossible to launch. My XR6 was hard enough. Hopefully the car companies will wake up and see that RWD or AWD is the way forward. Saab are making a RWD car for their next line up because they believe they have hit the limit of the FWD chassis, and that Turbos can only advance on a RWD chassis. Enough said.

Awesome, so you guys wont think i am GHAAAAAYYY or something if i said that on Saturday i am going to take a look at one.
maybe end up driving home in one???????????????
(maybe not)

with a nice kit made up and some big wheels it would look damn hot.

also if you are impressed with the engine then i guess that is a good thing hey?
Does anyone know how far you COULD go when modd'ing it? or have a rough idea of what you could do to really make it go nuts?

i am really considering not modding my falcon ANYMORE- (just got rims hehehe) and go buy a new car, so any help would be sweet.

thanks guys

ROB

Bit of hope for Hyundai with that styling isn't there.

yes i have, Ford Taurus SHO, most Cadilacs after about '70 (due to a huge amount of them in the states being converted into limo's.... ever wondered why cadi limos have a flat floor???? Cadilac saw a niesh 'sp' market for front wheel drive luxo V8's)

AFAIK, the Saab you're refering to is the one based on the imprezza, which will be all wheel drive..
i do agree awd is the way forward though.....

I think Hyandai are finally creating cars which actually compete with new cars, rather then looking like older generation cars! As for the styling, i see some of the Accord (USA Model) at the rear, and the front to me looks like the New Honda Legend (Acura RL) coming out late 2005 here... Just look:

Honda Legend 2005 model:

Hyandai Sonata 2005 model:

The front lights of the Sonata looks very similar IMO

Being born in 1975, I missed most of the 70's, and when I became interested in cars (the late 80's early 90's) Rear Wheel Drive was the way to go. Today, a V8 Front Wheel Drive seems almost laughable, but some big wig in Holden may see this as a good idea...

The Saab I was referring to is based on an Opel platform similar to the Commodore platform. The Saab based on the Subaru platform is the 97 IIRC, but the one I am talking about is a completely different car altogether. It will have a Turbo version of the Alloytech v6 from Holden, on RWD.

It is only in prototype stage at the moment, but why was it called the Global V6 _ .

I liked the Saabs, especially the 95 Aeros, and I almost bought one instead of an AU111 XR6. Shame I bought a boat the week before.

The new Hyundai may just turn the tide for Hyundai as a company. They need ONE strong car before they are taken seriously, and this looks like the one to do it. It may however turn out to be another Holden Vectra, which Hyundai doesn't need.

Looks like Hyundai have taken some bits and pieces out of the Honda parts bin (and put them to good use I might add).

I really like the look of the Hyundais now .. they are getting better.

And it looks to me that they are utilising 1 motor in there line-ups now .... it started off with the 2.7L V6 ... now onto the 3.3L (Tucson and Sonata ... and I think Tiburon later).

AWD will be a great addition to thier line-up and will really boost sales for them too.

I know their first cars were absolute e .. but recently they have been making a name for themselves.

A lot of people hang sh!t on Hyundais, my neighbour had a '98 twin cam excell and did nearly 250,000k in it, mechanically it stood up well, but the interior fell to bits.

Imo the new one looks to be a winner, and if i was in the market for something like that i would DEFINATLY look at one

They said on Top Gear a few weeks ago that the next Tiburon would be RWD.

Sounds like Hyundai is having a big go at improving their product. I can't wait to see what they come up with.
