I'd never compare a Skyline GT-R to a domestic Aussie car. We simply do not make the type of vehicle that competes with them, and of what we have on offer, the regular R34 GT-R (0-100 4.9 sec, 12.9 sec 1/4) will slaughter everything we've ever made. Putting the N1 up against Aussie stuff is even worse, like using a nuclear missile to fight someone with a pea-shooter.

IMO a fwd car from Toyota won't be beating FPV or HSV anytime soon.

Toyota claimed it would do 0-100 in 6.8 and would sell for around $48 k. For less money you could buy a XR6T that would smash it. An XR6 manual could probably match it for pace for $10k less. Poor effort. They supercharged it and it only picked up 35kw, thats pretty feeble.

I dont think it will be released at all. It pretty much is only a research and testing project.

The new model Camry's from next year will be 4cylinder only and the new Avalon has a new (not the 1mz-fe) 200kw+ 3.5L V6.

Maybe Toyota is looking a supercharging the new Avalon or the new camry, but the current platform is finished and times have moved on.

True true, but close enough.
Also, the skyline and supra are dedicated sports cars, not souped up family sedans.

Supra maby, but the skyline is a suped up 4 door family car, with 2 doors removed just like a monaro

anyway, these 12sec skylines and supras are not made anymore and are getting quite old. so why are we comparing 5-15 year old second hand cars with current in production brand new cars?

Research them a bit better. The Skyline is a family car first and foremost. Right from when it was released in 1955 as the Prince Skyline. The GT-R has been the sports orientated model (much like GT/GT-HO for Ford and GTS/SS for Holden), since its inception in 1969 (KPGC10 Skyline 2000GT-R) to compete in Japanese touring cars.

There will be on "R35" Skyline as they is already a V35 Skyline (called Inifniti G35 in the USA). And they're not super-sports cars. The next GT-R will wear the tag R35, but it will be 'Nissan GT-R.' No Skyline anywhere in the name, they've made the choice to seperate the two nametags, one's a family car, the other a proper sports car.

And if you don't believe me... just look up the Skyline R32 GXi... four or two doors... 1.8 EFi SOHC 4cyl... 90hp :

Actually I already knew the skyline was originally a 4 door. I was referring to the GTST and GTR models.
R32,33,34 GTR skylines may be old now but they still dont call them Godzilla for nothing.

They're still not designed from the ground-up like sportscars (like the Porsche 911 for example). They're a sports car built off a family car, like HSV and FPV.

MkIV Supra (aka. JZA80) was built from 1993 to 2000.

Eh, looks and sound are subjective to opinion.

Personally, I wouldn't mind an R34 GT-R V-SpecII N1 in my garage...

I think some of the problem is the fools that are driveing them. they "the fools" who buy these cars and think they are un breakable are the reason under 25's are paying massive insurance premiums and excesses.

yes i can hear it now........but what about commodore drivers? :thebirds:

I have driven some skylines and well im not trading my XR any time soon.

Well, you don't get luxuries in a V-SpecII N1, that's like a 911 GT3, fast stripper model. But if you were to get a GT-R M-Spec... they've got quite alot of niceties. Not nearly as fast, but its got power everything, remote engine start and shutdown, lots of leather, an LCD screen with a bunch of info (boost, tyre pressures and some other stuff), sat-nav, onboard TV etc etc.

Why the hell in a temperate climate like Australia would Starting you Car with out being in it be a feature? Leave the motor running so the car jackers don't damage internals driving off cold, perhaps?

Have you seen an R34 in real life? They look very sexy. Dont know where you're getting this $150k price tag from, you could get one under $100k but they perform like a $300k supercar anyway.

my opinion...don't like tooooooo BAD..

yes i have seen many of them. FFS i live in Melbourne, I have been to Chapel st , Lygon St and attend Monash Caulfield. I stand by my opinion of them. BOXY UGLY and very ricey looking. The only GTR that had any decent looks was the R32.

I am talking brand new from the factory the N1 cost 150k. Wheels did a test of one about 2 years ago, check the magazine has all the figures there for you.

i never doubted their performance at all. i just think they're ugly and at times doubt the price tag attached.
