When i drove my mates alloytec we both named it "Mary". He tried, and failed to light her up, then I tried with the same result.

If this motor produces 170 odd killerwatts Ill stand rooted. It may very well on an engine stand, but there's NO way the ECU was letting it make that power (or rather torque) as publicised on the engines spec sheets.

It will not turn a tyre in the dry, sure it's an auto, but it's got an open wheeler diff and skinny dross rubber !!! Jesus, my old XF would thrash one wheel, and I'm guessing it made all of 100 KW !

I wonder what the ECU lets MARY really produce when it detects WOT and foot on brake ? It is not 170 watts, yet alone the bigger ones ! This is not a criticism of mine, I couldn't care less, but there you go !

He HATES this car, paid mid 30's for it OTR, had consisdered a XR6, and would dearly love to offload MARY for ANY car that consistantly makes what the manufacturer quotes.

How aggressive is the ECU on Ford IL6 engines ??

Hmmm. Ecu shouldnt murder the power of a car.... I dont know what you're getting at.

Its called TORQUE LIMITING STRATEGY, apparently the ECU / PCM retards ignition / fuel to prevent drive train damage.

I could be wrong here, and no doubt will be told so..... but others on this forum told me this when I posted a ' road test' of Mary some time ago.

Anyone from Holden MC to confirm / dispute this ??

Ive read else where about this referred to by some as "take the fun out" software.

Not sure if Ford employ such ECU / PCM strategies..........

My Boss motor doesn't always do what my right foot tells it to. I'm hoping an edit will fix it.

Well, I found my 8 to be more consistant feeling after flash. Pre flash, sometimes it would feel as if it was down on pwr (relative to normal baseline) during a sustained hard flog. It was only a feeling.... I never was able to really quanitfy it. Starngely, on the dyno we found my 260 to be extremely consistant, run after run............

Surely it wasn't just the placebo effect after the flah tune. Was it ????

I can vouch for that! We tried to light up a VZ's tyres (ON A PRIVATE ROAD!)and it just would not happen! It just squatted down and sat there. I even tried turning the wheel and hooking it round in a 'donut' fashion and the best I got was a small chirp from one of the wheels. We also noticed that if you put the car in Neutral then floor the pedal, the rev's will hold at 4000rpm. Then if you dump it into Drive, the rev's drop right down to idle before it engages the gear. THERE IS NO WAY WE COULD GET THE ALLOYTEC POS TO DO A BURNOUT! I totally agree with your 'take the fun out' software statement

My BA on the other hand will light up the right rear quite easily if I don't have tools in the car
