I was warned to be careful where I went as the Ford shop was quite aware thet I tended to splat throughout the mulga on the odd occasion. I thoght this was silly until I actually looked for LPG dispensers.... not that silly at all. On the other hand I do have to plan the scrub runs in the F6 because 95/98 is not all that common either. Shame you can't put goo in unleaded to emulate LPG like you can to emulate petrol |

Ford have just extended the LPG lineup, BF Fairmont and BF XR6 Utes can be purchased in EGAS now...
Theres hardly any LPG car allocated to dealers that arent ordered, most of the LPG cars are custom fleet cars, most of which are non government organisations.. I believe no Government departments are running LPG Falcons... LPG new car sales are very low, theres more demand for used LPG Falcons then new ones as people buying new ones can still afford to run petrol in them. Westpac Bank run alot of LPG Falcons, but alot of their fleet in QLD atleast has been changed to VW Beetles, none of their staff are too happy but theres been an incentive for them to drive the VWs covered in WPAC advertising.

NSW Police force you E-gas falcons. Just about every GD car in NSW is an e-gas XT and the education department uses E-gas Futuras (ive been in one)

I have a real problem with something wearing an XR6 badge getting that gutless E-Gas engine!!! E-Gas XR6's utes will be getting smoked by Corollas !!! My AU XR6 has dual fuel & the car only feels about 5% down on power when driven on LPG, so why can't E-Gas engines make 95% of the power of the BF Barra190 engine ? Instead it only makes 156kW, which makes for a crap power to weight ratio!!!! Last edited by Jake F6; 30-04-2006 at 03:00 PM. |

LPG XR6's are purely for looks + economy. You wouldnt drive around in one thinking you can put a good fight (unless your racing a camry!)

BA's rely on exceptional air flow, you'll notice the egas engine is simple down on peak power, due to the restriction, BA Heads flow a hell of a lot better then the SOHC heads so this restriction plays a massive part in why it can't match the peak power of the petrol version.
don't forget manual V6 camry's run 15's in stock form, so i wouldn't be suprised if a few stock camry's beat even petrol BA's.

I dont see why people pay out the E-gas Xr6. Its a nice car, you get to have the E-gas with nice feature, sports suspension its no longer a taxi, a nice car (it will handle exactly the same). Sure it wont be as fast (it will still do a sub 9 0-100), but the days of the hot XR6 are over, they went with the tickford wings, the XR6 is now the sporty 'base' model (no LSD was a sign), if you want a hot 6 like the old days, you have to get the Turbo or Tiffie.

The ONLY reason that a person would buy a LPG car for personal use is because it is cheaper to run. If they were a greeny loony then they are more likely to go down the Prius track. If you are on such a tight budget that you cannot afford the extra $1000 or so a year (personal use, not commercial) then you are hardly likely to lash out with an extra $5000 (the difference between a XT & XR6) for a sporty dash seats and shiny wheels. This is not taking into account the extra $2000 to have LPG fitted in the first place. There is significant difference in performance between the petrol & LPG engines and those who buy a new XR6 are a bit sporty oriented otherwise they would have a Futura for the same money. Sporty oriented people would probably frown on the idea of owning the least performing model available that would get blown away by povvo renta XTs. There is, however, another group of people who like to own vehicles that look like performance models but have little actual capability. Many call them RICERS................... |

*a lot* of people will take the XR, not because its sport orientated, but because its better looking then a Futura. And to have a similar, yet same priced and better looking car would be far more attractive. a higher initial purchase price will a lot of the time overcome lower ongoing costs, and with prices as they have been for a long time now, its a big cost saving.
