You guys are going to spew... My wife payed 1.01 for E95 today.....

The oil Field they are speaking of are in the deep waters in the Gulf of Mexico.. At this point it is speculation that they will mine the oil because of the depth and flow rate of oil.. The sea bed is 6000ft deep and the oil basin is a further 4000ft below that.. That a total of 10'000ft down, which has never been done before and is quite risky... The other problem is the flow rate. The test they have conducted show they can get 6000 barrels a day.. I am not sure whether that is good or bad.....They also stated it would take 2 years to get a rig ste up permanently to drill oil from that depth. They also stated that the extra profit the oil Co's are making from the high petrol cost id allow for more oil exploration, which is a good......

So don't expect the cheap petrol to last to long..

The info is some where on AFF as a link.. Sorry I don't remember were it was I read it..

Yes & no. Oil price, as with any commodity, is set by supply versus demand. As we know, demand is only going one way - up, putting pressure on prices.

On the supply side:
The recent uptrend in oil prices has, and always will be, caused by concern over the deliverable supply of oil (ie partly, but not only the total amount of the resource in the ground, but rather how much & how quickly it can be piped out, refined and transported to the end user).

Additional reserves found in the Gulf of Mexico could mean the world is less dependent on Saudia Arabia and other middle eastern countries to maintain the world's oil supply (thus the current never-ending tension in the Middle East becomes less of a concern). It also increases the probability of infrastructure being built to enable more barrells of oil per day to be mined and refined and distributed to the world. Plus, there are potentially more reserves to be found in regions previously thought untouchable. All these factors mean the corporations & industries of the world have more choices of supplier, resultantly oil emirates and corporations have less bargaining power as supply is perceived to have increased, and as a result, oil prices fall.

This one find won't change the world.. it is just another piece of daily information the markets digest when oil prices are determined. However, if it results in a number of explorers/resource companies employing the technology and finding more oil fields, and the finds progress to full scale production of quality oil, it could be the start of another downward cycle of oil prices.

Hey all

When you are telling us what price you are paying can you please add in where you are from? Im finding it difficult in a few threads when people talk about fuel prices, as many dont list where they are from in the avatar for me to get an idea.

Thanks Kindly
(for the record I think we are still around the $1.38 mark, but I havent filled up for a few days......thats around Central West NSW)

$1.17 for ULP today. I never thought it would be anywhere near this price again.

an interesting point was raised on another forum about the lowering of fuel prices...

saying the reason for the recent price drop was due to oil companies wanting to put us into a false sence of security, with fuel prices down there will be no need to stop buying large fuel guzzling cars and look for other methods of powering our cars.

this then gives people the false sense that everything is fine and we can go on using petrol forever, so therefore people buy those big 4WD's that will use more fuel down the track and the government isnt under any pressure to do anything about it.

however im happy to see this drop in fuel prices as im broke enough as it is!

Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong!
Hypothetical here...This could change from state to state, so don't quote me.
Say if I used 160lt per month. Paying $1.38/lt in the NT, equals $220.80 Per month, or $2649.60 annually.

In QLD for 160lt per month. Paying the suggested 8cpl less, $1.30/lt, $208.00 Per month or $2496.00 annually.

Thats a saving of $153.60
Then it costs me $200 extra to register my car in QLD compared to NT....
It costs me an extra $46.40 to drive and register my car here annually, and thats even with this "Miracle" 8cpl discount.

Flame Suit On :
Cheers
