I bought a RT E48 bathurst Charger in 1988 for $3000 and sold it 3 months later for $9500.
I saw it sold last year for $60,000 fully restored.
One of the best cars I ever owned, I just could not afford it on 1st year apprentice wages.

all these idiots with these ex bathurst specials are seriously a bunch of tossers. they **** me up the wall. they are the ones that are driving the price up on those cars (gt, gt-ho 327 350 monaro 6 pack charger etc) which in turn is driving the price up of the stockies ( falcon/fairmont 6cyl monaro etc) it sucks and i hate it because it makes it less affordable for someone who wants a nice old fairmont to leave standard and cruise around in.

Rather buy a Lamboghini Gallardo for that sort of money. Much much more fun, class, etc.

I don't disagree with the market forces of your post......what I do disagree with is that it is SO totally over inflated worth.

Put it this way a Maybach is nice but I cant see almost a Million in its value for what you are getting.

After all they are all just a means of transport and no I would not drive a small car I like my mid range XR8's and utes.

I think a lot of people are missing the point. Hardly any of these are being bought to drive (the black phase 3 clearly being an exception). They are an investment. I wouldn't be getting in on it now, it's not going to last for ever. But then again $200,000 seemed rediculous a few months ago. Anyone who bought any XR-XB GT pre 2002 is laughing. And everyone who sold one before then is kicking themselves.

.
Never heard of a bathurst E-48.
The bathurst cars were E-38 and E-49.
The E-37 and E-48 were lessor models.

Firstly, yes Shannons would be a good start. I recently tried to talk to Vigil about mine, they wouldn't insure the car for what I think it will be worth (my estimate of 100k when complete). Specially when the same model and body style car sells for nearly 50k and needs a full resto.....Go figure. I think they need to update their market values a tad. They asked if it was an RPO 83, I said no, then he told me to call Shannons. Not much of a company hey (Vigil)?

The fact that a lot of these cars are disappearing into collectors garages is a sad fact of life, sure they are being kept well etc, but they aren't getting out to be appreciated. And being seen and heard is what will keep the passion alive long after our generations are gone...

My brother has a Datsun 120Y in pretty good nic - he's the second owner (it was his first car) and its done 85,000klms... Wonder if he could get any more than $200 for it?? LOL...

Anyone who can afford these $$ for a GT would more than likely already have a garage full of exotics to play with.
If it were me i would take a Ford "GT" 06 model over a HO anyday.

Personally I agree, either a ford GT or a Yummy Mummy Corvette Z06!!!
Speaking of Ford GT's, does anyone know what they are worth here? or the replica GT40's? If some person offers me the right $$ for my GT, it's History...

With the prices going the way they are on Gts one day I will have to return mine to original but this will not happen any time soon .From here on I am going to stay away from special build cars eg Gt etc and only use base model cars so I never have to worry what I am doing to its value by modifing it .

I know this is harsh and I understand where everyone comes from but in my eyes they were still a falcon with factory mods for speed anyone can build something better now .But like I said I do understand why people are passinate about them and thankful that some will preserve history so please noone get affended .

I totally agree with your interpretation Tony. The purists make it hard to personalise your car, make it sound like you are committing sacrelidge if you mod a GT. Have even seen some of them bagging other cars for sale. I like my cars to suit ME, thats why I will get out of mine as soon as someone offers the right $$. At least with somthin newer, I also wont have issues with parts, and can do what I want with it.

your all entitled to your opinions about the ho`s, some of us grew up with them have sat in them driven them, watched them race when the the racing was pure desperation and hard yakka moreso than todays soft muscle cars (no disrespect intended) i still love todays modern muscle cars but the oldies had a character of their own and if i had a spare 400k floatin around i would`nt think twice about it

Sorry dude, you got most of it wrong...
The Black XYGTHO Phase 3 that recently sold went for approx 400k.
The bill bourke XW GT was just a 1969 XWGT T code windsor, that got sent to the states and fitted with a 428 big block.
A K code falcon was a std 351 2V falcon motor...

Nope. If there are 5 HO's for sale and 5 people willing to pay 250K for them, then thats what they are worth. If I was selling one I wouldnt turn around to them and say, no, they are only worth 25K so give me that! :yeees:

If it means people who dont have this sort of money to buy one today will miss out, well, sorry but thats how it goes. I wont be owning one as I missed the boat..........or havnt won tatts yet. (twice)

its a lot of BS i reckon.................

I have seen in person a phase 3 that was written off, engine destroyed in the crash (block ripped apart) etc.

Car was rebuilt, amazingly with all numbers matching. I wonder how all these people with more money than sense would react if they knew that more than half of the p3's are mock ups and re builds of wrecked cars??

Christ, I even know of parts being made OS for them, and being passed off as n.o.s items.

I would pay 50k for a "phase 3", because as most people will be aware, its just an XY, and the seat you would be sitting in is more than likely the base out of a 500 or something, the dash is a re-pro, the rims are a copy, etc.

400k is a mighty big gamble...........................

For those that mock/question the T3.

Only 3 T3 TL50s were ever made..

(and I may be wrong on this; but wern't there only 500 T3 in total?)
