Meh they sold all of the first shipment before they were even released So obviously Hundreds don't share your view of always having to be the first off the lights and having to beat the other car when merging Oh and Mountain roads. Don't always go up

Its a cheap sports car, like the toyota paseo was or the Hyundai Coupe. Its really just a Corolla Sportivo in a different suit. Didnt the sportivo have 147kw too? Sure it may handle well but thats because it doesnt go fast enough. |

Seriously, you are one of the stupidest poeple of late... About the smartest thing you said is highlighted. To bad the rest sounds like a 17 year old, you talkabout traffic light drags and towing trailers...all of which are nothing to do with what this car is about. But to really shut you up... The toyota 86 does a 14.9 1/4... While your mums XT does a 15.3 So, please, put you mums XT back in the shead (Give it a good wash, remove the maccas rubbish out of it,, and top up the fuel first). Now, go inside, and read up about cheap, fun sports cars, drifting and how a well built chassis is a good base for a weekend track toy.

Nikked: One 1/4 mile run of an overseas car does not = gospel. An XT Falcon with the ZF box is a genuine 14 second car. The 86 will be closer to mid 15's here in Australia. |

Also over a quarter mile I have no doubt a XT would spank a Toyota 86. Id love to see it go 14.9 quarter mile, ill eat my words if the Aussie version runs thoses numbers, maybe even buy one. |

I've seen a youtube clip of the Toyota 86 racing a Honda S2000 from a stand still. It's not even close. The Honda blows its doors off by about 5 or 6 car lengths over the quarter mile, and the S2000 is a 14 second car. |

Oh FFS... Given that both magazines and private owners have done simmiler times id say that the 86 is a genuine high 14's car, the evidence supports it, unlike alot of claims by people here that are happy just to troll around, brandishing about usless garbage. Given that the S2000 is a low 14 second car (high 13's in some cases) that would be why it beat the 86...it's not rocket science. The one or two people here are bogged down trying to call this car out on 1/4 mile times, have hughly mis-understood the importance of a car. Its like saying a Prostock car is the better then a V8 supercar because it does a quitker 1/4...

with identical drivers the 86 will not see where the evo went, on any circuit, on any surface. they have such a cult following for a very good reason. if anything, the slower the corner the more of an advantage the evo will have. the 86 is a good cheap sports car, lets just enjoy it for that, and see what happens when tuners start tinkering with it here. its not a supercar, just a damn good base for a fun trackday/weekender etc. |

For $29,990 lets not expect too much from it. Its a cheap sports car, looks stylish, billy cart handling but a lack of motor. Thats why the price point. Lets not confuse it with a Evo or even a 350Z, I think someone said it would run with a Cayman |

This seems like a awesome car at a great price but the front reminds me of a Prius and the back reminds me of a Subaru

Nikked: Toyota have hinted at a TRD version, I've already posted about it in here...
http://www.caradvice.com.au/165968/t...its-the-track/ Brakes, tyres, suspension, roll bars etc etc, but no more power. blueoval: I'd really suggest you go and take an Evo for a drive mate. Punt it into some corners you know, and do it going way too fast. You will be simply astounded at the level of grip they have, and the balance the chassis has. It's incredible. Anyway, we're way off track. I only talked about quarter mile times etc because they were brought up, and only compared the 86 to the Evo because it was also brought up. |

Honda S2000 kerb weight- 1299kg
Toyota FT86 (GT spec manual) kerb weight- 1257kg Just over a bag of cement is the weight difference if that has any bearing.

i never realised the s2000 was that light.
if they had made a hardtop i reckon id have owned one by now, but i just dont like the idea of convertibles. even t-tops is pushing the bounds a bit for me. |

This thread is awesome - comparing the 86 to a Falcon XT at a traffic light drag - comedy gold!!
My preferred method of transport in areas that have traffic lights is a push bike, so not too interested in how fast a taxi will rush off from the lights. I have a theory though... I think the conflicting opinions on this car may just be a reflection of what attracts the person to cars in the firstplace. Broadly speaking, ones interest in cars will stem from one of two sources - driving a car and the enjoyment it can bring, or the car as a machine itself. For many of us I'm sure its both. I know some people who are right into their cars - have a broad knowledge of the industry, and own high performance or high horse power cars. They drive these cars to work and back ONLY. You could count the number of times they've driven a winding country road on two hands - and it was only cause they had to go somewhere. In a few cases I've seen first hand how inept these motoring enthusiast actually are when trying to have a little fun on some dirt, and when they do hit a winding road they plod along like a tourist - no idea. This kind of enthusiast is likely to look at the 86 and laugh at the lack of power, and just not understand what the hype is about. Then theres the enthusiast who just loves to drive. I'd put myself more in this category. I regularly drive through traffic for over an hour to get to some of the many winding and deserted country roads on the outskirts of Melbourne, and drive them as fast as I can, then drive another hour home - just for fun - despite having an incredibly unsuitable car to do so. An 86 would be fantastic for this. Not saying I'm a pro - far from it, just that I like to go fast around corners basically. I love the idea of the 86 and dont see the lack of HP as such a problem. Would love it to have more, but its not a deal breaker. Some broad generalisations there, but just a thought... |

Is anyone else sick of seeing comments from 86 fanboys (on other sites/facebook) about people that "just don't understand" the concept of this car?
Take me for example. I haven't driven an 86. Neither has my 86-loving audience. HOWEVER! I cannot comment that the car may be lacking in the balls department (which to me is one of the greater foundations of what makes a car/driving enjoyable) because I "just don't get it" I haven't watched enough InitialD (any, actually) to appreciate this car. Nor can I acknowledge that it's not about power or outright speed, it's about "teaching the basics of drifting" because, as it turns out, quite a few people actually go and tear up mountain passes in their spare time and have drift battles against their rivals from other tofu shops. |
