Wonder what the delay is with the Suby? An agreement perhaps that the 86 be released first?? Who knows.

If Subaru were smart they would release their car pronto, while there is a bunch of impatient customers... and ramp up production.

Maybe Subaru is concerned about WRX/Impressa sales ?
It makes me wonder that they may have underestimated the 86's popularity and entered into the arrangement with a slight arrogance regarding their line up's Performance heritage and now their pants have been pulled down.
They would be better going the other way and make their version a HI-PO product and sell it with warranty. Make it $39k with 206kw and see what happens.

All built in the same factory. There won't be any ramping up of production as I would imagine it would already be going 24/7.

They will play the market and restrict what they sell aswell to keep the hype going, well I would anyway. Good on them though.

Subaru website says July 16 for launch here. This car won't take many sales away from WRX one reason being power and the other being practicality but if they upped the power they get people swapping who dont need rear seats. There really is less discussion about this on Rexnet than here.

Why would they be building Toyota in the same factory as Subaru?

That's like saying there's one factory in Australia that pushes out both VE Holden & FG Ford vehicles isn't it - vehicles in direct competition with one another.

The 86 and the BRZ is pretty much the same car bar some subtle cosmetic changes - and the badge.

Joint venture to save money.

Toyota owns a controlling stake in Fuji Heavy Industries, the company that owns Subaru.

I think many of those cars were 'badge engineered'... I don't know to what extent the 2 brands worked together (if at all).

You can add the Nissan XF ute to that list, as well as the Kia Ford Festiva etc ;)

Can't understand how many people in NSW don't spend the extra few $$s for the black and white slim plates as opposed to yellow and black which clashes with pretty well everything.

So motor is conducting their annual bang for your buck comp atm.

Track testing is happening atm even though its not a public event.

Info is that a ecoboost fg falcon lapped in virtually the same time as the 86....

What track though? It would have to be one that was biased towards top end speed you would think.

It wouldn't even have to be a fast track for a stock Falcon to take an 86, its just not quick on a track or the road. Just look at the track times it did in this months Motor, basically slower than everything else bar the MX5, which isn't quick either. Any warm hatch would smoke it.

It even has low grip tyres to help enhance balance, so no doubt Toyota have nobbled it, most likely for reasons of cost. Based on that, track times just don't seem to be its forte, nor acceleration times, nor much else really, except balance.

The irony is that 99.99999% of people who buy an 86 wouldn't even know what balance is, they would buy one just for the pose factor.

Toyota need to hurry up and build a Supra with the BMW 335 engine in it, that would be a real sports car. Good chance it will happen now that Toyota and BMW are working together on a new sports car. Get the balance of the 86 in a car that actually has grunt and grip and it will be a cracker.

Now I await the fanbois response of how "i just don't get it"

Did you even bother to read the articles or just select the bits that fit your opinion ?

Its lap times were quicker than the SV6 and only 2 secs off the WRX with AWD and 48kw, 138nm advantage.

Yeah doesnt look like it

still comparing it to a Falcon honestly thats funny, because they are in the same category aswell arent they. Id look at an N/A XR6 if i wanted a car that would actually be fun to drive... NOT.

Anywho i like it, yeah sure it might be a little underpowered, but underpowered compared to what... an Aston Martin.

The tracked the cars at Wakefield and their best lap was (fastest to slowest was):
1. Scirocco R @ 1:12.0
2. WRX @ 1:14.2 [brakes packed it in after 2.5 laps]
3. Clio RS (Angel/Demon Edition) @ 1:14.5
4. 86 GTS @1:16.0
5. SV6 @ 1:16.7
6. MX-5 @ 1:17.0

Should be noted that the Clio was a special edition, with grippier tires then any other car there...

Give the 86 the same tires....

One thing about the 86 is the low final drive ratio, it sits around 3000rpm at 100KPH in 6th and 1st gear tops out around 60kph

By comparison, I took a Mazda 3 Turbo Diesel 6 speed for a drive yesterday, it sits on 1600rpm at 100KPH, but flooring it in top gear from 1600rpm it would outrun, well, a whole lot of other cars. It has similar torque to the Falcon

while we'd still really like to have an 86, looks like we will be going for the Mazda 3 TD

The last few cars I bought didn't appear to even have that option. They came with the slim black and whites. Haven't had yellow and black plates for years.
