Breaking any habit is really hard, so I wish everyone good luck.
Imagine if we found out coffee was a killer...see some people get out of that one! I smoked for a very short period when I was in my teens, I had some really good friends who at the time where being a PIA but basically peer pressured me to stop, go figure! I was only a social smoker though so it was easier for me, I had a free supply aswell! For me though, the only way to get over anything is cold turkey and family. Lock yourself away..do it for two days then you know you can do it if you want to. One day is the first step and sometimes easy IMO, continuing it is hard.

just keep telling yourself what a filthy, disgusting habit it is.....you're fighting a "mind game" within yourself....not easy
aim for something with the money that you are saving and keep that upper most in your thoughts.....have a goal!

If you're stuck try some of the herbal stuff, basically you'll need to roll them yourself but that way you know what's in it, unfortunately the stuff I know of is only local so there could be some local to you or on the internet, I know two people who used it and they said even after a couple of them, they couldn't go back to regular smokes, once the nicotine cravings are gone it's easier to give up on these.

the money you used to spend on smokes try and put in there and watch it grow......not easy with little kiddies ( been there, done that) if you have an incentive such as that with a set goal then it is something "tangible" to work toward and the reward can be "seen" speaking to folks on here is great and will help you no end.....quitline may help as well and don't forget your doctor.....stay positive and keep a good outlook on life you are not losing anything but you are regaining your life and health but in the end YOU MUST WANT to quit! there will always be temptation around you with others smoking but you alone can control your will power

I've got to the point where I don't smoke for a whole day or two but I eventually fold and smash pretty much a whole pack shortly after.
I find it's usually when I've had a bender the night before that I don't really want to smoke and find that as a good opportunity to try. If I'm occupied and not too stressed I'm good. What is really annoying is people who don't smoke and really have no idea how hard it is. I find ex smokers can be particularly negative and be even worse. My whole childhood, the lounge room and car was filled with smoke. My parents smoked that much it was like a bushfire no ****. The heating control unit stained in yellow against the pure fresh painted white wall is legacy of just how much. I like having a smoke no doubt but it costs a lot of money and it kills your workout and is no way good for you in the long term. Baby steps hopefully will get there in the end before too late. |

Not really...
But imagine if you said that and meant it. My family was my motivation. I turfed my last one out the window 3 years ago COLD TURKEY. Not only do you save money YOU FEEL 100%! You can smell, taste, ect. And feel proud to say I DONT SMOKE. How would you feel if you were laying there in your death bed dying from lung cancer due to smoking? it would be like " so i paid 100k to die like this? "... |

So...when you get a craving, accept it, and attack it (the craving), but don't give into it. Wash you face with cold water or something instead - anything to avoid having a cigarette.

Hey man.
Tomorrow for me is 6 weeks. Its still sometimes hard. Yesterday was a killer, but honestly man, I feel so much better. No joke. I just chew heaps of normal gum now to keep me busy. I found the gum helped me the most over patches and other stuff. Dude you will be fine. Week one is hard, week 2 is harder, then week 3 becomes easier and so on and so on. Be strong man. For your familys sake.

don't know if it has been mentioned earlier, but have you seen the electric cigarettes that you can buy?
a few of the guys at work have used them to help quit smoking. http://www.cigarti.com/

Never smoked, never intend to. You have some things going - incentive at home and people on here supporting you as well. Try and find some things to help - maybe some form of exercise program (see your doc). |
