I've said it before and I'll say it again, the Boss 5.4 engine is the most underrated engine in recent years. I love mine, but those 6.2L Maloo's who cant keep up don't

It is under rated because all it did was make good noise but didn't really go anywhere fast and was completely overshadowed by the turbo options of the same era. How anyone ever bought a 5.4 over an F6 of the same time I will never know, they were a barge in comparison.

I bought my old xr8 because I like v8s, my average speed is less than 40kmh, I don't dispute how good the turbo 6 is at all, I got chopped by plenty of them lol, but cruising along listening to the burble of the 290 boss was great. Still went pretty well, it's just the turbos went better. |

Don't know about others but the BA GT out of the showroom was, to me, the best looking of the late model GT's. Look tough without a single mod.

The BA/BF GT will go down in history as the best looking and most menacing looking GT of all time. This is the car the ford enthusiasts will crave, despite both the FG GT Miami or the f6s being superior performance wise.
The older GTs (60s-70s) look tough but basically had no body kit on it, just a stripe over the fairmont 500 of its day and ho-hum performance relative to today's standards. The newer FG GT look like the xr6, way too subtle in its appearance. A wolf in Sheeps clothing. The eb GT and el GT had a menacing look but no performance to backup its looks. Performance was even more ho-hum than 70s GTs. A sheep in wolfs clothing. Grab yourself a mint b series GT, menacing looks and great performer especially with some light mods. A wolf in wolfs clothing. Not the outright fastest but best overall and most emotive. Buy one even if you have to pay a bit over and keep it. It's the golden child of the ford/fpv fleet. Like the Monaro in the Holden range. |

I never really minded this though as my old ESP was modified to suit. It became a tyre shredder with torque to burn and was a great car to drive after all the mods I did to it. Same as my Boss powered BFGT. Yes the F6 was quicker out of the box, but a few simple mods and like it's older brother the XE , it too is now a great car to drive with plenty of power for daily duties and spirited drives through the hills. I never really bought my cars for their factory power , i have modded everything I owned. Funny how people with the new SC GT with 330 odd rwkw are still finding that it ain't enough.... |

Heres another picture of my old XE 302 Esp red / black and my mates old XE Esp factory turbo 6cyl his car was number one of ten and the prototype car featured in Wheels magazine 84. The red and black Esp I sold for $7k around ten - 12 years ago. My mate just bought it of the guy I sold it to, He ran it into the ground and it needs a full resto. My mate paid $8,500 and thats still a cheap Esp factory v8.

Isn't it amazing, we are on a Ford Forum & every god darn thread has to end in a civil war!!
Now we have the FPV v T series v old school Fords. Simple thread about a BA GT. I luv em all. Model T to FG 335 & would take a BA GT anyday.

I'm a big fan of the BA GT, as I've mentioned in previous posts in another thread, they created a new found excitement. I was working for Ford at the time and the amount of older GT and falcon owners that came in and drooled over them was amazing.. Man they stick out like dogs balls on the road too..

I got my BA GT 2 weeks ago for a couple of $K under $16k and its been garaged all its life full service history, 118,000kms, quaility consumable parts used and its so clean and its a 1 of 1 colour
reason i got it cheap was that was all the money i had and there are no buyers for GT's out there so he took my offer wiping $4500 off the asking price people said i was stupid for buying a heavy weight GT with a clunker 5 speed but its fast, better on fuel than my old AU3 XR8, handles better than the AU and does great skids (off the road) i'm not selling it and it was supposed to be my daily but now i drive a commodore 99% of the time so the GT is just for special occasions

The eb GT was critiqued for not making the advertised power of 200kw. The el gt was a little better but low to mid 15s down the quarter by this pair didnt really cut the mustard considering their outlandish looks.
the 70s GT was quicker with the HO good for around 14.5s. |

I guess the surge in power (more on some day same dyno comparisons than even the Callaway tickled GTS, or any gen 3 or 4 comparison that I saw) at 4000rpm just made people think it had little power below that. If you knew how to launch them and get into that power band early, you never got done by a HSV. The only thing every one seems to get right is that they are the best sounding Ford engine in the last 30 years bar none. B series GT's - If you think they are slow - you cant drive

I like BA's. They're hated by all the other ford people, so you know they must be good.

my BA GT does the 0-100 dash in low 5's and i think with some grip will be easy high 4's, its a 5sp with 4.1 diff and catback...definately not slow at all
its got buckets of torque from 1300rpm and it a much better drive than a turbo but you just don't get the kick in the backside like a turbo car....its there but more linear

I think you'll find they stopped making BA GTs back in about 2005, so they're 8 years old or more and depreciation is to be expected.

think of it this way, the EB GT and EL GT hit rock bottom about 5-8 years ago and they are puling back up, i think i saw an EB GT for about $15k when i was looking years ago now i don't think anyone who has one will sell one so prices will be higher now maybe $25+K
the BA GT is the cheapest way to get a GT and they may get cheaper but i don't think by much the prices will flatten out and in about 10 years head up to about $25+K also but with inflation thats not really making much money if at all. a BA GT is a great option if you have a spare $20k now and want to sell it in 10 years for $20k, you could buy a BA XR8 for $10k spent $10k on mods and it will still be worth $10k also look at CV8 monaro's, i was looking at them 5 years back and today they are the same price and just a little more than a BA GT, so they are holding their value well and probably won't depreciate any more due to the fact they are rare-ish, not made any more and a coupe

But what BA XR8 is worth $10K? I reckon you'd be lucky to get about $7500 for even a good one now. Yes, there's heaps for sale around the $10k, but note they're for sale - not sold. |

Me thinks the poster is just highlighting that the first of the FPV's are finally dropping into a easily affordable range for a decent example, heck I paid 10K for my first Falcon (XE GL with flashy bits) back in 88. Well in reach of even todays young-uns. Dang I think my missus could use one now that he's mentioned it! And my 4yr old, yep, better get him one too and I'll just take it out for a regular drive to keep the seals lubed.

ebv8 did you have that time tested or is it a seat of the pants guess? I have a mate out west who has his old mint BA sitting covered in his shed because no-one would pay anything decent for it. He offered it to me because he knew I’d look after it and I said no it’s was too slow and would only take up room in my garage, I’d rather something older to just cruise around in. If I can pull a high 4sec to 0-100 with nothing but a catback, diff gears and good rubber I’ll ring him and pick it up. He offered it as a freebie. . |

thats with a phone app that works on the gps, seems to be accurate i have tested all my cars and they are all on par, eg: fiesta 10.5s, VX comm 9.4s and VH V8, 10.5s
i previoulsy have took averages but its a level road i test on and i get the same number each way i tested the GT last sunday and the road was wet-ish and traction control was on. 0-100km was 5.43s, 60ft was 3.43, 1/8m 9.52s, i only got to 105km as it was a 100 zone so didn't test the rest. I also gave a VE SS ute a run and beat him to 80km (i backed off at the speed limit) from a standing start so i'm very happy the mods i have are only what i have seen don't know if there is anything else done, was told the edit died and went back to stock and seems to have stock extractors and cats if you don't want the BA from your mate i'll be happy to take it off his hands

At the end of the day the prices will be what someone is prepared to pay, and the vendor accept, based on mileage, condition, service history, and exclusivity (which can be different things to different people).
I loved the BA GT-P 5-speed that I had, I cried the day I sold it and saw it being driven away!! It was a tough looking car. All the criticisms of the 5.4 engine meant diddly squat to me. It was a very relaxed "Grand Touring" cruiser, and a nice riding car. Suspension was stock standard but the guy who bought it reckoned it sat better on the road than other BA/BF ones he'd driven.
