Can of coke 15c and large pack of PK's for 5c = 20c, those were the days, about 1970 I think
when we charged from gallons to litres fuel was 16c a litre, about 1978 I think

You guys with old...really old...computer stuff kicking around, have a look around online. You might be pleasantly surprised how much some of this stuff is worth these days to collectors and computer enthusiasts. I know I'm glad I didn't chuck out that old IBM motherboard from 1983 I mentioned before. Dust it off, mounted it on a nicely varnished ply backing, and a little printed label saying what it was...bingo...decent payday on Ebay...

The change over was 1974..... when 20c worth of hot chips fed you and 3 of your mates and half the flock of seagulls that appeared from nowhere and swarmed around, as seagulls do.

......when 50c worth of musk sticks got you 100. (and the runs for 2 days after).
mmmmmmm musk sticks. 20c worth of chips got you 4 or 5 times more that $5 gets you now. Scollops at 5c each (and they would always throw a couple of extras in for free). When petrol was 35c a litre.

And when you get to my age (67) you start to take an interest in the "good sorts" Grandmothers: doh , not that you are really capable of doing anything too physical as the resultant trip to the hospital and medical expenses from the over exertion is just not worth the effort , better just to live with the good memories of times gone by and just go fishing instead

when Brandivino, Marsala, Blackberry Nip and Stones Green Ginger Wine were the drinks of choice, UDL's didn't come on to the market until '72 or '73
when a bloke bought a slab of Melbourne 'tubes' and sat on the beach all day when a group of mates would buy a 9'er, the pub would loan you the gear to go with it, you would load it into the back of a ute and go and watch the races on the Island when you didn't have to pay to see Skyhooks, Billy Thorpe or AC/DC, the pub provided the entertainment for free and pubs closed at midnight or 1:00 am NYE

now... you pay! sometimes dearly depending which poker machine your standing in front of. its pity that the greedy big end of business (which control most of the bottlo's and pubs these days) sees more value in a poker machine than a crowd of happy drunk folk singing out loud "no way! get fcuked! **** off!" to a live angels set which is what i'd happily say if i had say in the viability of these one arm bandits which have invaded our fave drinking holes these days.. ah well.. its good to get all nostalgic occasionally but yeah they were the days!!

Hell yeah, we used to go the Grantville drive-in, Dandenong drive in and there was a 2 or 3 screen drive in near near Monash Uni, I think Preston had a 2 or 3 screen drive in as well
Shepparton has one of the last surviving Victorian ones until about 4 or 5 years ago

Afterwards head to the 7-11 that was on the corner of Blackburn and Ferntree Gully Roads for some food and to check out the cars parked there and watch them all drive by. Maybe head around the corner to Gilby Road for a bit of automotive action or baybe head down to Dandenong Road. Playing cat and mouse with the coppers. Cruising with a car full of mates....... Great days!!
