This could be a thread all it's own when Ford Australia used to make some fantastic ads ...Really fun and really good looking cars..
Ford utes actually **** all over anything Holden had... This one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PeKFXvzPdeA If it didn't make you want one , nothing would..It was regarded as one of the lll time great Ford Falcon ads..
RE The Ford Focus U.S. poxy ad..Look at this beauty from a couple of decades ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKYZi_KyL-M . I found this US ad that shows imagination too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZzXHq7gKN8 Certainly more than the crap Focus ad .
Ford used to make funny but effective ads , maybe not so much now.So did Toyota actually . Cheers Rod

G'day..I forgot about this one...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKZG96HAWLs They truly were a beautiful car...This is a clever Aussie ad .
This is how the Brits did it way back..You'll need a few minutes to watch though..Quaint but actually a sign of different times https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MW58y-2zO3w .There is a similar one done in 1965 for the Zephyr/Zodiac launch...

looks like a good ad to me.

Blue dress lady adverts (who I think does a fine job) are all about dealership offers finance etc. not car specific, if your not actually in the market for buying a new car they probably mean little. did they even have ads like this in the time of the AU XR8?

I get how the market changes, but being a fly on the wall doing work in and advertising agency, half their job is to try and change the market, and target those that will believe what they are told. For my personal use I don't need a suv that gets great economy and has the biggest boot in the class. I have a work car if I need to move big things and it has a fuel card. A fat guy sedan that goes ok and uses fuel is ok with its smaller boot, and drives like a car. I'm wise enough to know that without added ride height to stop before concrete bump stops to not leave the bumper behind on backing out. But a much higher percentage of people lack any form of life skills and need as many aids just to not kill themselves in a car when being distracted by everything in modern life these days.
I was surprised that there was an article in the paper about her. I wasn't expecting that. But personally I like the ads, I think she does a good job.

G'day... Yep , at least there's an actual car being talked about , not the bloody finance which is essentially putting the cart before the horse in my book..
Here's a miracle vid about the Ranger.. The miracle is twofold..
One is it features seven minutes of Asian drivers that don't hit anything or cause an accident..that's a miracle in itself or is that too politically incorrect to say? Secondly is that no-one in this mob ever heard of OH&S. It'd never be shot in Australia like this that's for sure. Check out the crane lift stuff....You'll see what I mean. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfVIH_JgFkY .. Cheers Rod..

What's with the use of white backgrounds, the lady in blue, terrible watercolor-themed rendition of the Ford Logo, drumsets, and the most annoying jingle/orchestra sound/or whatever you call it as the Ad concludes.

Who are Ford exactly trying to target? The ads are completely devoid of aggression, ambition, or adventure, seem effeminate, neutral, metropolitan (metrosexual?). Either Ford hired the wrong marketing team, or they want to completely alienate their current customer base, to make them 'go further away from Ford'. I now instinctively switch channels to avoid seeing the lady in blue again, or drums, or hearing that horrible chorus, or seeing the watercolour Ford logo. I also switch off the completely lame VW ads instinctively (maybe Ford are targeting VW buyers).

The current ads for HSV/Commodore are heaps better and at least watchable.
I agree with you about the commercials. I asked the same question to a couple of good mates who spent years working in advertising. They said women have more say in most car purchases these days. Don't give me a hard time guys, I am only passing on what I was told. They also mentioned 4WD adds are most likely to have males driving whilst virtually every other add shows a female at the wheel. Is it because cars are much smaller these days? (cars not 4WD/SUV) I am as lost as the next bloke. Is there a Mustang commercial in Oz yet? There must be a dozen different coloured new 'Stangs around my area, maybe Ford Aust buys their adds from the UK? I believe all models are shared these days? Wouldn't know about holden adds, a dog fart is more popular in my house.

The selling point so they say is about a relationship lol , the dealer so called service they provide is laughable at best.
Just had the lady from Ford call me today asking about my new Ranger and service , well I didn't hold back with my dissatisfaction.

Funny fact I came across at the Henry Ford museum. Even good old Henry himself couldn't convince his own wife to drive one of the vehicles bearing his name. She opted for an electric vehicle if I recall correctly.

I have read that before. She refused to drive a ford. Atleast my wife doesn't. She drives a ford.

G'day...You are joking right?...What about several , "We have ignition " ads around the AU..Also one of the real favourite ads was also an AU one.."Must be stuck in Third"...then a bunch of hit the mark ads not least the "Can't Get Enough of This " for BA/BF....Even early on in the FG run there were a couple..My favourite was the one when the workers didn't want to get out of the ute.. Where the excrement really hit the fan for many of us was the new age crap not really featuring a specific car via our blue dress girl..Very tepid insipid garbage..
Ads need to inspire you to wanting to go and check out an actual car..I'm trying to think of a proper FGX campaign . nup , still trying..a real shame for one of the great Aussie Fords.. Imagine if they'd shown the FGX range a bit like the FG GT ads ..with a simple "Oh yeah'' caption or something...bloody better than the 2.9% finance crap or the 'free loan car mush'...GEEZ...
A couple of ads for Focus, Mondeo ,Kuga, Everest and Ranger but not a proper campaign like the good old days..If Ford wanted to brand target the market then it beats me why they don't revisit decent stuff like.....

" Have You Driven a Ford Lately" , "Were Moving with You " , " The Great Australian Road Car ", We have ignition " etc featuring the current offerings even the hard to get Mustang and Focus RS in the remake scenes ..Cars go a bit retro classic , why not advertising ? Locally Ford are doing a bit better lately ,granted but...
WHO KNOWS...They might even sell more cars than now with a bit more imagination......Cheers Rod..

Advertising has moved on from TV ads. Especially for a generation of buyers who are less likely to even be watching live to air TV.

The ads that Ford do run are basically a lead for people to then research the vehicle further on the internet, something that will inform far better than an expensive, 30 sec ad that most will fast forward through on their PVR.

If I was in the market for a car, the must be stuck in 3rd ad would work for someone like myself who is interested more in the go fast then things like fuel economy or self closing tailgates. I much prefer the blue dress over the cars trying to be sold. Imagine if the blue dress was overtaking the rocket car in a sprint at said must be stuck in 3rd. They would have sold out before production even faster.

And to add to this, Ford US!! Just go back from the US & there are Ford adds on TV all the time.. I can't believe the difference from the same company, but in different countries.

G'day .That is extremely correct and true I'd suggest..I just had a look..Several TV ads for the new 2017/18 Fusion and Escape models , several demographic angles too.. Then there's ads for the SUV's , the pick up trucks too ( the F150 is America's no.1 seller) just on checking..When I get a chance I'll ask a couple of our locals who visited the West Coast about six months ago..csv8 , have a look for yourself on You Tube and you'll see Ford U.S.currently still feature target cars in their ads..plenty of them..
The skeptical me is telling me perhaps Ford Australia couldn't or wouldn't waste minimum funds on advertising due to 'lost cause' status especially around mid 2013 onwards given that the closure had been announced.
Cannot be certain really but to me the minimalist ad campaigns seem to align with that..The poor old FGX certainly wasn't advertised much at all..Late FG's and Territory's fared a bit better maybe.. Cheers Rod..

G'day csv8 and all.. I just posted links for one of several ads for Ford Fusion and another for one of the Ford Escape in the Videos Thread..There are ads for Raptor , Edge , Mustang , F Series etc etc. without even looking hard at all..most still current.. Looks like Ford U.S. has certainly not wiped the TV ads there just yet as Joe said..
Not too much for Taurus but maybe it's because it's on the way out like our Falcon/Territory was and no point wasting ad money..Who knows and maybe the main reason why Taurus wasn't seriously considered to replace Falcon here and why a bit of a supply of Euro RHD Mondeos would have to do..
Cheers Rod..

The Christian name Ngaire is pronounced NY-REE for anybody interested and is mainly found in New Zealand. It could mean fern or flaxen.

It seems like some people here should consider applying for a job in Ford Marketing, as they seem to have all the answers!

Advertising the FG X Falcon on TV when the car and nameplate was already destined for retirement. What could possibly be wrong with that idea?
