Wolfmother!

although not technically australian (3 members live in melbourne i think) an awesome band to see live are shihad , i have only seen them once but it was a hectic show talk about energetic.
And yes it is good to hear that alot of people on here are supporting local music whether its rock,metal,punk,hip hop,blues/roots and countless other sub genres, there is always something good on offer from oz and there are still heaps of undiscovered acts out there which is very exciting.check out triple j unearthed in case you have not already

hey the only time ive seen or heard a shihad song was on video hits late at nite, but i thought it was great! even if i was ****ed.

PS. True Live are ferkin sweet! Specially live.. I'd never seen something like that before. So cool to see classical intruments being mixed with modern styles and hip hop in a real setting (not backing/synths like most of it).

Whilst I agree with the second part.. How are they 'mainstream'? No-one knew of them when they had their EP out, and the ones that did had this awesome 'underground' band.. Now they have an album that got attention (which has the SAME songs on it as the EP.. their sound hasn't changed), they're mainstream? Fair enough if you just mean they're mainstream as in media attention.. But if you mean 'mainstream' as in the musical sound, then nuts to that.

Love Shihad.. Man, when they finally played at Fed Sqaure for the first time live in ages, that was farken ENERGETIC.. That was a pretty crazy atmosphere up front.. Loved every minute of it!

listened to a bit of Colnel Claypools bucket of bernie brains. but only for 'Bucketheads's' input. he is one of my alltime favourite guitarists.



not really a fan of underoath. seem a bit generic to me. takes a real special hardcore band to impress me these days. i did hear some 'Norma Jean' yesterday and i was suprised. they were allright. will need to find that cd somewhere to give it a proper listen.

Having grown up with my old man playing the likes of Hendrix and Zeppelin when he wanted to listen to what he thought was great music, and having grown up playing guitar all my life I find it easy to appreciate good music when I hear it.

The problem these days is the lack of effort, feeling, emotion and so forth that seems to be put into music. When you listen to tracks like Stairways, Dazed & Confused and event something like Heart breaker, you can feel the effort and feeling that each member of Zep put into their music... What frustrates me these days is that it doesn't seem to happen quite as often...

Take for instance, Pete Murray. Great song writer, his songs are good and I enjoy listening to the two albums he has produced, but not one of his songs has captured me in any way for raw emotion that he has put into his music, and the lack of experiemental guitar work or solos is kinda upsetting also...

Having played guitar for more of my life than not, I look to this type of music to enjoy some good talent for listening, but I don't often get to listen to much of it because there isn't usually much played. I can't say I enjoy the likes of Metallica and those heavier bands these days because alot of their guitaring talent is aided by pedals and whatever sound effects they use.

I must say, the biggest disappointment I have faced recently is the release of John Mayer's new album which almost completely rids the thing I loved most about him: his guitaring talent. Perhaps some of you aren't in to his genre of music, but listen to a live version of 'Covered in Rain' to experience just how good of a guitarist he is and listen to some of his music to see how much emotion and feeling he puts into his music.

But that's just what captures me, the amount of feeling put into music, rather than just writing plain basic songs for the commercial market...

I cant say I agree with you there but I know where you are comming from.
Kirk hammit is only useing the same things that paige and hendrix used,distortion/gain, reverb/delay and a wa wa pedal so I wouldn't exactly call it aided. You still have to actually play the guitar you still have to put you're feeling into the instrument . True, distortion can let you get away with some things but it makes other things worse. I dont know how long half of you're life is but I have been playing the guitar for 27 years . I play metallica songs in my band and all I use is a valve pre amp for distortion and a graphic eq to take the edges off. None of these things I would call effects I just call them my guitar amp.
I understand that you dont like to listen to heavy bands and that is fine but I would not dismiss them as guitar players just because they use a whole pile of distortion. I think you might be surprised at how hard some of that stuff is to play. Why dont you learn a kirk hammit solo and see how easy it is, it's not all smoke and mirrors.

well they are aussie, so i give them a chance. i support the aussie metal scene, so...
