Those photos of townsville airport are of the airport "land" , , which backs on to the Town Common. There is no pictures of the runway and taxi-ways, , as they are all PERFECT.....

On another note, , FYI, , the Burdekin Dam has got 800 000ML going over the spillway each 24 hours, , , that 800 000 million litres in 24 hours, , ( a lot )

It sort of is a hick town, no offence to anyone that lives here.

Just heard on the news update that there is a 3m croc hanging around cattle creek on the highway to ingham, where the traffic is all waiting for the waters to subside so they can cross. Would be a tad scary.

I'm surprised no one has offered to show your daughter around while she's here normxb.... :hihi:

Everything in Townsville flows back out to sea.

Patrol351 - That is one of the good things about all the drainage work they did out there, the speed at witch it runs off, you sometimes forget how much rain you actually had.

Most goes back to sea but a lot fills the underground water table as it seeps in to the earth. Bloody hard to catch a fish here for weeks to after all this; too much fresh in the tidal streams.

You see the Burdekin scheme is on the coastal side of the Great Dividing Range, water can't travel uphill...

However theories back in the day postulated that by building a tunnel under the Dividing Range water could be diverted into the Cooper River in North Central Qld, which forms the upper park of the Lake Eyre catchment... this water could then be allowed to flow down these creeks, forming massive irrigation areas, and ultimately into Lake Eyre, then into the ocean.

If the Dividing Range was on the west coast of Australia, then we would have a mass inland farming/agricultural zone similar to the USA.

Water COULD be diverted from Nth Qld down to southern Australia, how many trillion dollar cheques should John Howard write?

all of this piping water from the north is only gonna make things worse, everything adapts to the climate changes (animals, plants) but when theres double the water or water when its not suppose to be...then no water anywhere when there is suppose to be some then things will die off rapidly... the study of environmental science!!
hence why we have such crappy weather lately its only gonna get worse, but i aint giving up my Falcon for some smart car that runs on 240volt

de-salintising plants and recycled water is the only way to go.....either that or ill sell you a house in Innisfail for $3million take it or leave it?? LOL

I agree about the water pumping thing, and I said the same thing about the Murray Scheme earlier in the thread I think (or maybe it was another thread?), too much water being pumped over land that ecologically can't support it... so any massive pipeline isn't going to be any better...

Halving the amount of money spend on farmer's aid during the drought would barely fund the environmental impact scheme such a task would require. Contrary to popular belief, Australia spends very little in farmer aid, as opposed to the US and EU who both spend in excess of a billion dollars a day on supporting their farmers... Anyway another topic for another place.

So it's raining huh?

"Not happy Jan"
and a few other words I won't bother typing because the "word checker" would only leave this ******** , ***** , *******..... heheehehe
