We had a bit of trouble with Gypsy at first because she was getting in with the neigbours livestock (blue heeler x red kelpe!) and once she was in we couldn't control her anymore. Everyone said we wouldn't be able to get it out of her because of her breed and we should sell her to a farmer who could use her for what she did best (rounding up animals!) but i couldn't part with her!
So we ended up getting a dog trainer (or should i say, human trainer!) in for 2 hours and since then we've had complete control over her. All that stuff about going through doors first etc is so true. Even little things like when they come up and put their paws up on you is a sign of dominance! Gypsy doesn't eat until i tell her to, she will drop food out of her mouth if i say so, and she wont even look at the sheep and cattle next door now! And also one point to keep in mind is that she has so much more respect for us as dominant figures! The relationship is better now, there's no reason to feel sorry for a dog who is being dominated because they're happier and not constantly battling!! But she's always testing us and they say they always will so you have to be consistent and not give up!!

The cat is absolutely gorgeous, she sleeps with me every night.. I didn't like cats until my g/f bought her and now she never leaves my side when i am home.. The dog is great too.... He is a massive dog.. I am about 195cm tall and when he stands on his back feet he is about up to my nose.. He is only a puppy too.. I hope he doesn't grow anymore.. But hell nobody comes into the yard when he is there... |
