Bob still owns both and will not be selling them, Calder is having a huge makeover as well, $9.5m being spent there.

I think Rod might be having a bit of hand in what is going on, but I cannot be sure, just what I have heard.

if the Andra meet in 2005 (25,000people i believe - only event since 2001 at the track) is anything to go by, it will be FHUGE.

If a new 'complex' does eventuate, AIR will probably die soon after.
It's one thing to have a newly resurfaced track, but the rest of the facility is still in the 70's.
If we get a new place, and the facilities are better (pits etc) and the pricing is competitive, It'll be the end of AIR..

of course I could be entirely wrong

It would be good to have two tracks tho, the majority would go to the better one, so I'b be able to get more runs in at AIR, which is 5mins from my place

Hopefully the new complex gets up. Few here have said AIR had the best air to race with and was a great weekend trip too. Beats the 13 hrs to WSID too.

As a kid i grew up at AIR, every weekend we were there with my dad racing his altered's or funny cars. The sea level air is killer for these N/A motors and with a new surface it will be fast.

Yep exactly what a mate reckons, used to run Super Stock and nearly finished his new car for the same bracket

I want the prices to be reasonable :S
Before they closed it the pricing became rediculous considering the facilities.

Hope they fix the 'speed hump' that used to be at around the 1,000 foot mark on the RH lane.
All they have to do now is lengthen the run off and move the spectator mound back away from the fence to get full ANDRA compliance. Oh, and maybe someone should get rid of the asbestos thats all thru the spectator mound too while they're at it.

Shhhh......AIR is loaded with the stuff. The area was used as a dump for the horrible . Would be next to imposable to remove it all.

I'm calling it now,, 10's off the trailer for me!!

Short of bull dozing the whole joint and starting again AIR will never get full ANDRA coverage, maybe for 6.50's or so.

FELLAS ! Please stay away from the joint. there will never be ANDRA champlonship drag racing at AIR. I know people are itching to race thier super street/ super sedan's, and are sick of towing all over the country side to race. But there are people with competition car's that can't race there ( the track will not hold the horse power/ run off area too short) and want to run in their home state and have hundred's of thousand's of dollar's invested in there car's. If people start racing at AIR, this could possibly jeopardise the new bid for a race track. State government might think "well you have somewhere to race now, we don't need to provide the land" The rumour has circulated amongst competition racer's and some have talked of blockading the front gates if it happen's. That's how strong some racer's feel about the track and Bob Jane. If you have driven past the track, you might have seen the big C--T spray painted on the sign out the front I've been told there should be some new's on the bid for a new track in the next couple of week's Please hold out, if the new track happen's, we will have a track with the latest facilities for racer's/spectator's and Top Fuel, Top Doorslammer and Top Alcohol action will return to Adelaide.

if no one races at AIR the state govt might think "well theres no interest, why bother supporting another track?"

You know it's funny you should mention all that PALE ALE. Last night at work a friend and i were talking abut the fact that BJ should have bloody done something about his cattle yard out there 8 years ago. A dollar oppurtunity i think he sensed. What was wrong with making some money 8 years ago??

It also came up in the conversation, that wouldn't it be funny if everyone that had a race car, went down and just parked out the front when they hold the first meeting. :monkes:

I think with everyone in sa being so starved of 1/4 mile action for the last few years, you'd be hard pressed to convince them to boycott the track once its re-opened..

unfortunately..

Yeah, would be quite a hard call. Tow 7 hours for some non-Andra sanctioned racing at a top place like Heathcote or 1 hour for some non-ANDRA sanctioned racing at the rather average BJ owned Adelaide track....

Or wait until we get out track up and running here in the Riverland. Its so close to getting the full go ahead and funding its not funny.
Our track will be full length concrete (the only one outside the USA Im told) , doesn't run towards the afternoon sun and will have full ANDRA 'A' Grade status.
My front lawn is the size of AAMI stadium and the back one is the same. I will let all AFF members camp at my place whenever the drags are on up here!

You could do it in 2 hours easy, even with the Effie towing the coupe.

I see no problem if AIR is run as a club type track and there's an ANDRA approved track in SA. Whether those 2 things happen though...

I e-mailed AMC last week asking about AIR.
