Too right, people listing shells for such prices only raise the level of all car listings of the same calibre. Its ridiculous. How are enthusiasts such as ourselves able to even consider buying something like that. A shell, rust cut out holes, and replacement panels for 24k.

Don't get me wrong they're unbelievably looking nice cars, but it's getting out of hand. I wish to own a coupe one day, i'm only 19 at the moment, and an enthusiast not a hoon. And i really cant see myself owning one of these beasts for many years to come at current prices. The problem is, we want these cars, and sellers realise that. And there are people out there paying crazy amounts for these things as investments, not even to enjoy the privelidge of owning something like this, quite sad imo.

Cheers

It looks like he sprayed primer to cover the mess, the quarter panel lines are shocking.

There's still a bucket load of work in the shell alone before it's worth anything.

There also a HG GTS shell on there for $18,000. Imagine my shock when I discovered it was the same shell I owned 12 years ago!!! The only thing that it's had done to it in the years since I owned it are the mags on the back( I have photo's of it when I owned it). It still has the feeble welding attempt on the rear quarters that the owner before me had done that using a flattened IXL jam tin. BTW, It'a a genuine 186S GTS (still have the verification paperwork from GM). It's probably worth $1800 at the most. I swapped it to the EBay seller for a green HG ute he bought for $350 after he gave me the sob story on how the car was promised to him by the wreckers, and it meant so much to him and he was going to restore it...... Good luck to him if he get's it though.

i'd suggest you have a better look at that shell, and some of your prices might have been relivent in the 80's..

you will need all hanging panels: these wont be easy i'd say to purchase panels and panel & paint up to a decent standard could be up to 10K

motor: a 4v clevo back to spec would be at least 7k on it's own

gearbox: 2-3k for loader and all whats needed to be up to spec

diff: might have the genuine diff, but if not there's at least another 2k

interior: i think you will find 1500 will not cover a full gt interior, then the resto it will all need.. I recon anywere from 5-10k some of the gt boys may know

all the other buts and peices to make a gt a gt in and under the car could well exeed another 10k.. have a hard think about whats needed, brakes/handbrake/rims/tailshaft/lights/indicators/bumpers just to name a few, i think 10k is being generous you could probably double that

shell: look at the rubbish, 24K + panel and paint 15k

man i could go on for ages, i know some things could get done cheaper but to bring that car back to genuine showroom condition to a point were it will be worth dollars is going to cost you..

i dont think you would get out of a resto of that caliber for under 100k considering whats missing and needed to get that junk mobile..

And if you look closely you will find it is probably only a falcon 500 shell.
No mounting holes for the rear "honey comb" trim.

Seriously, it looks like he's found some paddock eaten coupe, washed it, cut some 'rust cut out' holes, and sprayed it with primer.

Thats most definately not a panel beaters job either, and $2500 to finnish it? heh, yeah.. "panel beaters" Any panel beaters who would quote $2500 to finnish it should be looked at with great suspicion, then confusion, then fear, then should be ran away from, screaming.

That looks like the biggest, most suspicious heap of the proverbial dung that I have seen in a long while.

so for $300000 you get to tattoo that arm with whatever you want, essentially you own that arm.
i propose every one here chucks in a few bucks each, have the arm tattooed with "TELL HIM HIS DREAMING".
once that tattoo has healed, have the arm removed from the twit that it is currently attached to and then go around and beat the owner of the coupe shell with it.
