I was conducting one of the tours and making small talk with one of the Mums, and asked her what her boys names were. Harley and Norton was the reply. It didn't take rocket science to figure out who Dad was.

Dad wanted my sisters name to be Holley because of the carbie but mum was against it. Ended up as her middle name.

When you want to call in sick to work because it's raining and you spent four hours detailing your car the day before.

I was home for 2 days (from working/living interstate) and the only car I drove was my coupe. 43 degrees the first day, no air con. Raining the second. Drove it unnecessarily a lot both days

As you can see, no chain attached to the kitchen sink. Nah fair is fair, I do things to her car, whilst she does a couple of bits to mine. But I do tend to get stuck with most of the household duties.....

An old friend of mine who is a complete car nut went snorkeling for the first time a few years back, I asked him, how did you go snorkeling?
Reply: It was awesome, I saw a stingray and it was the size of a HQ bonnet!!! |

...you love the smell of diff oil, and clean car parts for ages in kero wash bays, and sweep the floor. Just so you can learn.

Diff oil has to be one of the hardest smells to get out of clothing. I change my 9 inch centre a few years back and I can still smell the diff oil on my overalls.

When your girlfriend named her budgie 'Turbo', just for you.
When you drive a rough, uncomfortable 27 year old car, because it's big and it's loud and it's different to everyone else's. When you rave on about that car, you admire it, you care for it, when to everyone else, it's just a big old hunk of junk. When you give it a pat on the dash or bonnet after a drive, saying "there's a good boy, that was a good drive" When you coax your car up hills, and you know it gives it the extra horse and will power it needs to get up there. When you give your car affectionate names and you know you could never part with it. You keep all your old cars, whether they are roadworthy or not, because they are a part of the family. I never realised how nuts I was about my cars!

You're a car guy...When the chair you put in your shed to relax on or read a workshop manual is made from an old bucket seat...(mine is one from an old HQ Premier...comfy!)

When AFF is your home page.
When you detail your broken old warhorse every weekend even though its been tucked up safe in the garage for months.

My Fiancee just put this up on facebook about me:
You know you're a car guy when... Your fiancée sits in front of the tv and watches a car restoration show (Last chance Garage), for over half an hour, understands what is going on, and patiently sits through it, before realising the actual car lover isn't in the room and she isn't being forced to watch it... Hahahahahaha :P oops :P
