I've had a lump in my throat for the last hour. What a great bloke, knew a guy like him, but Steve had the initiative to bring his work to tv. Always said it would be a very sad day the day he died. Death angers me.

Rest in peace, he did the most amazing things for Australian wildlife, remembered always.

He is the Croc Hunter, no croc ever got the better of him.

My heart goes out to his family and all that were close to him...

Its people like Steve that stay in your mind forever....his antics, attitude to life and others made everyone appreciate what he did for the environment and the world.

You'll never be able to replace a character like Steve and I hope his legacy will live forever

I cannot beleive he's gone. He is such a big personality. Everyone knew of Steve Irwin. Love him or hate him, you have to admire the man who stood for so much. It was his life and it will be his legacy. He has done so much for the presevation of our wildlife. He stood up for what he believed in, and his passion was as great for his family as it was for his cause. He will be missed.

If only more people had his passion and enthusiasm for life! At least he lived his life the way he wanted before he passed and achieved so much, hope his family can take some comfort in that.
RIP

here's the msg:

"If you haven't heard already, Steve Irwin died today on the 4th of September, on the Batt Reef, near cairns. As a sign of respect for the Australian cultural icon, please place a turtle ( tu ) at the start of your MSN name, and forward this message on to others"

Very sad news indeed. Steve came across as someone very passionate towards his life-long obsession in working with wildlife. He was not only an Australian icon, but a world icon.
