Not to even get to diesel powered trains and ships...

Jesus, green groups are doing enough damage already without car enthusiasts doing their work for them by siding with the private-car-haters and demanding one of the most efficient light vehicle fuels be done away with.

Good on VW for finding a way around the ludicrously strict EPA requirements in the USA. Well done for finding a way to make cars do exactly what they're supposed to...get good power and economy and who the hell cares about the emissions from private cars. They wouldn't add up to a tenth of the emissions of trucks, buses, and other large diesel powered vehicles around the world each year.

Until everyone is riding natural gas powered public transport (and even then feeling guilty about it) green groups will never be happy.

Oh...and the EPA...? They can crow from the rooftops on the world stage about evil VW now...
And I guess this has conveniently at least taken peoples minds off...well...this little issue which was thier fault but has been completely forgotten after a swelling rise of public and world anger...
http://edition.cnn.com/2015/08/10/us...e-river-spill/
Suddenly VW cheating on their emissions data is a virtue ? They could not engineer the car that passes the relevant requirements so they have cheated and got caught.
Governments set the rules for emissions and if you can't comply don't sell cars in that market.

AHH no point complaining, easier to just sell Tezza, buy an FPV F6 and enjoy the $$$ savings in fuel.

Hopefully this whole debacle leads to better real world testing standards.

I wont be at all surprised if the government fine VW in the billions. I will also chuckle at the hypocrisy given some US auto makers have killed people with defective cars and received comparatively trivial fines.

Thread bump. We have a solution for US motorists: BUYBACK:

http://www.wsj.com/articles/volkswag...dal-1461252731

Summary can be found here (along with implications for macro US used car market):

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-0...-us-car-market

salient points:

Specifically, Volkswagen has pledged to give drivers of about 480,000 2-liter diesel vehicles the option of selling the cars back to Volkswagen, or having them modified to meet emissions standards, the judge said. Those with a lease can cancel it and return the vehicle to Volkswagen. Consumers also will get “substantial compensation” on top of that, according to Judge Charles Breyer, overseeing the lawsuit against the German car-maker, who has pressured Volkswagen since February to produce a fix for the cars. He made it clear last month that if no solution was offered by this week, he would consider a request by the plaintiffs to set a summer trial..."

That's a lot of cars. I wonder if VW Australia would do anything like this if not prodded by threat of trial?

Hello,

They are US Companies though. That will be where the difference will be. Better than a new unpopular Tax, fine an OS Company. More $ to spend.

Is there any evidence Australian cars don't comply with Australian emissions laws?
