Yeah no. I used to work for Centrelink and when a homeless person presented to claim benefits, we told them to use a hostel or a shelter as their place of "residence" for application purposes.

Well I know pensioner couples who own their own homes and live reasonably without being extravagant and the have bought caravans out of their savings. You don't have to spend every dollar as soon as you get it!!

Same, my in-laws are constantly holidaying someplace or another, with all the age concessions they are eligible for, life is cheap.

My dad, an 83 year old highly avtive pensioner would be living in poverty
were it not for being able to live with me rent free.

Living on the age pension and renting from the negatively geared market
would leave him about $120 a week to run a car, pay utilities and eat.

That's how it works.

how come its harder for welfare people to buy houses and live comfortably.

disabled and oldies and genuine needy its not their fault they cant work and some would probably like to buy and not rent and people should be able to live and not worry about money those people should get enough to live the same as workers, just not bludgers and cheats

alot dont want to rent and would rather buy and alot of times it makes sense to buy because paying rates and loan would be similar to paying rent and costs of moving when owners want to sell and you have to move, then the house is yours and you can do what you like,

privite rent needs to be subsidised like public so theres more cheap homes for people to use

Welfare is designed to help those who cant help themselves really, if you could have a nice easy life on welfare no one would bother working

Sadly there are people who rely on it, which they must due to lack of retirement funds or whatever, but its up to them how they spend it really

In my travels I see people living in caravans about the place in dumps, not on holidays and old caravans.

One could by an old van cheap or even pay it off.
I know people on the rockenroll who do better than some who work.
I know people who just don't like to work and are on the rockenroll they get by not so badly from what I see.
I know some who's whole culture revolves around the rockenroll looks good to me, only they have no idea about money, but if they did they would be much better off, but the government has created the position they find themselves in.

Hi

With welfare when everyone adds their expenses on payday to allow the money for them how come if something pops up a lot have to wait till pay day is money for those people not there

Ones who haven't worked a day should only get enough to live aged disabled and ones that lost job should get a little more to allow a unexpected cost during week

On current affair other day there was a story about a single mother of 7 burning 3 trust homes down on purpose, why do you's think she did it and why do you's think she had 60 grand in furniture or got it off insurance

Why you's recon she had 7 kids is it so she didn't have to work and would she have kept having another kid when last one turned 6 or 7 so she could stay on parent payment longer and didn't have to work

Maybe someone can answer as I'm at a loss

I'm single, I work and pay rent and live off my wages etc and nothing from government

Was redundant from prior job and had to use up my savings and allowed to apply for benefits only after a 26 weeks so o was told but found employment anyway

Now, friend has 2 kids ages 4 and 2 and doesn't work and hubby is a chef with a 80k job, has a mortgage and are literally dodging the money the government throws at them

Payout after payout after payment

Nothing illegal

Doesn't seem fair either that if I lose my job, benefits and rent assistance won't pay my weekly expenses yet throws money at like above friends family when he lost his job

So because I have no kids or wife, if I lose my job government won't assist me and be basically on the streets once savings run out

Doesn't seem right

The mother will be paid for the kids until they are 16.

Once a child turns 6 and there is no children under 6 she will
need to look for work, but it's not hard to stay on Centrelink even if they want you to look for work.

Anyway, your asking questions about somone behaviour which only that person can explain.

You need to understand that Centrelink is not black and white, there is multiple shades of grey areas.

One person circumstances may be exactly the same as the next person, but they both will be on completely different welfare payment schemes.
