Got home last night after a 2 hour trip, car ran perfectly the whole trip.
Hadnt been home for more than 5 minutes when I realised I forgot to get milk. Jumped back in the car and drove 2 mins to the shop and got milk. Half way home from shop the car suddenly starts to rev out in Drive, as if it had just been put into Neutral but it was still in Drive. I'm like WTF? Lost all gears, wouldnt engage at all. Managed to roll home (lucky was all downhill). Started car this morning all seemed fine till about 1 min into drive, same **** happened again. Got a tranny kit and fluid for $70 and did the overhaul. Man was that fluid black and burnt plus only 3 liters drained out. All running perfectly now, but how could that happen without any warning and why 5 minutes after a long trip and not during it? Wouldnt it start to slip in drive going up a hill first if fluid is low and old? Morgs. |

Should be about 4.5 litres of oil in the trans because ive serviced mine a few times and thats exactly what came out each time,if the oil was really burnt you will need to service it again because the convertor would still have been full of burnt oil and it will contaminate the new oil.It sounds like there might be a leak if only 3 litres came out, check the rear seal[extension housing where the tailshaft goes in]

Take it to a tranny specialist and get a full flush done on it, just make sure you tell them it already has a new filter so they don't sting you for that.

i put an oil cooler in my but could'nt be stuffed topping up the oil because its in a bit of a **** place. its been alright for the past 2 months but after i gave it a real floggn at calder. in drive from 1st to 2nd it revs out and then i have no gears. ill let it idle for about 30 sec (not that i have a choice) then it fixs itself .im getting the tranny serviced next week hopefully this fixs it. at first it was only eveyonce in while but its become a couple of times a week only in the mornings when its freezing.

Was also interested in how much residual fluid was left after a drain and fill, how much fluid the convertor held. Anyone know what is exactly involed in a full flush? |

there is a cooler line under the radiator , with a connector . drain the pan again , refill new fluid , undo the connector and place a hose on the end into a drain tub ,start it up and pump it out, till you have clean fluid usually around 12-15ltrs gets it clean , dont run for to long as the pan will run dry quickly, top up as you go, reconnect , recheck the level

Any idea on the cost of a full flush from a specialist, so I can make sure I'm not being taken for a ride?

There are bands in an AU auto, but they aren't adjusted anywhere near as much as in times past. In fact they are hardly spoken of, which may explain why the idea of them even being in an AU box seems unlikely!
I got this information from Dino, the owner of a Fluidrive business, which is where I get my auto work done. GK
