I have inherited a problem that I dont know if its actualy a problem.
I turn the car to the run position (dont need to turn all the way to start) and it automaticaly starts and once its running, stops cranking itself on its own.... The thing thats wired is I had one AU that did it, and one AU that didnt and I have combined the 2 cars into one, and now the hybrid does it. CAR A - Started normaly when you turned ignition to the start position CAR B - Cranked itself automaticaly and stopped itself once it was idling Now I used the chassis of CAR B, and the only wiring that was kept original were the Orange and White wiring harneses behind the fuse box, and the harnes that runs to the back speakers, tail lights and fuel pump/sender, and the fusebox under the bonnet. I removed (from car B) the motor, ECU, Engine wiring harnes, Dash+ interior fusebox, Dash harnes from ECU to BEM, The BEM and the entire steering colum, ignition switch and wiring, gearbox and tailshaft, and replaced it with the corresponding parts from CAR A. Now the hybrid car does the wierd starting thing. I turn it to the ACC position and nothing lights up, but I hear a click of a relay, then I turn it to Run, and it fires itself up no problems, and all the dash displays correctly. What makes it realy wierd, is all the parts I thought could have coaused it, came from CAR A which wasnt doing it. So after all that, what on earth is causing this to happen??? Its not a massive drama, but Im pretty sure its not supposed to be doing it, has anyone else had this happen??.

I thought it might have been some sort of auto start feature on the gas system that was on the car when I bought it, but the gas systems totaly removed, and theres not alot left of the original car...... Obviously its not supposed to be doing it then....

Thats a strange one. I'd try replacing the fuse box under the bonnet with the one from car A, as that seems to be the only thing left that could be causing this.

so now that means it can be replicated if anyone wants an auto start feature mod! I pulled out the power distribution box (litteraly the only original part of the car bar the chassis) and found the fuel pump wire had melted through and been shorting on the starter motor wire. it appears the following sequence of events happened..... The fuel guage sender wire became exposed and began to short on the chassis, That melted through and began to short the fuel pump wire, The fuel pump wire then shorted through the starter motor relay wire in the distro box (this caused the wier starting mystery) The owner of the car (when this all happened) realised there was a problem, and decided rather than fixing it, to chop off the fuel pump wiring loom and run the car on gas only. They then sold me the car and I put a new loom to the fuel pump back on. Then replaced EVERYTHING bar the one part causing ther problem, lol! Well if you want an auto start, just connect the black and yellow striped wire (fuel pump relay) to the red wire (starter motor relay) in the power distribution box. The car will crank itself and because the starter motor spins freely when the engine speed exceeds 200rpm it will give the appearance that the starter motor has stopped. I dont know how prematureley it would wear out your starter motor, but it didnt seem to bother the bloke I bought it from!

the starter motor cuts out once the engine is running so it probably wouldn't harm the startermotor

Well there you have it......
Do you know if it cuts out by the ecu turnining off the relay, or is it cut out at the starter motor itself?? (if at the relay it wouldtntve been cutting out because of the short)

Thats right, you can turn the key to 'crank' on an AU when the engine is running and the starter wont engage. Its the 'anti d*ckhead' feature.

some F^(#!ng +0$$er stole my car and crashed it less than 500m away, so its a matter of stripping the crashed car and putting it all on the new chassis. Its become a very slow process with a few (alot of) teething issues!

Have you got pictures and a build thread or something?
Sounds interesting lol.... especially considering the amount of cash that came from your back seat?! I've wrecked out a ex-cab, found nowhere near that amount of money in it! Sundeep |
