Default Replacing Radio Aerial

Hey guys. Im radio aerial (sp?) has stopped raising and lowering. I was wondering if you guys know how to access it?

Ive tried through the bonnet and from underneath the car and i cant seem to get to it so I can replace it.

Also is there any aftermarket aerial that will work there?

Thanks

in the wheel arch you need to remove the plastic cover on the inner gaurd from there it's just one bolt and out it comes

Aftermarket ones cost roughly 100 and as said above remove inner plastic wheel arch and pull stereo out and wallah, the hardest part is feeding the antenna lead through but if you tie a piece of wire onto the end when you pull the old one out you can just pull it straight back through.

That's pretty much it (but I think you mean disconnect the aerial plug, not pull stereo out). Wallah? Do you mean voila?

My aerial broke off about 2 or 3 inches above the "up" position at the base.
So I unscrewed the aerial off my old radio cassette player, pulled off the bottom most portion so it was smaller diameter and stuck in into the remaining part of the aerial that was just under the top of the wheel arch-
Works a treat reception-wise...it just don't go up and down! lol :
Hard case when people get in the car, turn the stereo on,hear the aerial motor whirring away while the aerial remains motionless!

au3xr6 is on the money. They are easy to replace.

if the aerial is hidden ( down ) you'll get poor or no radio reception

My aerial did the same a couple of months ago. All I did to fix it was turn the radio on so the aerial is all the way up and get some warm water and give it a good clean. Alot of grim builds up on the aerial- I guess because when you wash the car the aerial is down.

Once it was clean it was better and maybe only got stuck every 2nd time rather than every time. All I did then was spray some silicon spray on a clean rag and give the aerial a wipe and then it should work like new.

Have not had a problem since.

you used to be able to get a device to turn your heated rear window into an aerial. don't know if you can still get them though

I dont see any reason why you couldnt use one like the BA's, their used to be a kit that was like this I believe on the market.

on the power aerials you can replace the mast by itself without pulling the hole lot out from under the gaurd....you just remove the black plastic grommet in the top of the gaurd and undo the nut that holds the mast in
turn on the radio and the old mast will come out....just turn off the radio while feeding the new mast in its pretty easy (sometimes peice of the old mast can breal off in side and the motor etc will have to pulled apart to get the old pieces out)...

My old AU had a bung 'leccie aerial, I just pushed it down and disconnected the motor part it. Never had a problem with reception.

Can you buy the masts only through Repco, etc, or is it a Ford genuine part?
