Not on an AU6, but after I sold my XR6T, I got a generic tune for my AUXR8 220. Seemed to work fine under "normal" driving conditions, but would totally die (even stall) under full throttle at higher revs. Flashed back to standard - no problem. Haven't bothered following it up. I'll try a new fuel filter, plugs and leads before I complain or get a custom tune, though.

Well aparently 1 of the 3 generic tunes is for economy, and I think the other 2 are performance. I'm guessing most people use the performance tunes but would like to know about the economy tune also.
Actually with the performance tunes, do they use more fuel? |

i dunno, i can ask ... but all i've noticed is a tad more power, and a tad more economy, like an extra 50k'z per tank ... but i don't know exactly what was done :( ... are you thinking of getting it done john?

Well, I can now answer some of my own questions.
I have used both 98 ron a dn 95 ron tunes. The thirs tune is a valet tune, it has a lower rev limit, and alas I have not used it. Im running on the 95 tune now, it is quite strong in the mid-range, and power delivery is much smoother. I am going out to willowbank to see if I can lower the pb, Ill do 2 passes on the original tune, and the rest on the performance tune and see exactly what differences are made. As for fuel economy, it seems to have DECREASED fuel consumption. When I fill up tommorow, Ill reset the odo, and wednesday next week Ill post up how manky Km's I travelled and what the DTE says, and my average speed, so you can see what percentage of my driving is at highway speeds, and what is at around town speeds.

Thanks for that Monty, I am thinking about getting one. I can't wait to see your results, that is probably what will make up my mind, no pressure.
And does anyone know a good place to get one in adelaide? |

And why does this say the AU's can't have generic tunes?
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/CAPA-Flash-Tu...QQcmdZViewItem When I buy one do I have to specify that it is for an AU 6cyl auto? |

I dont know why it says they dont have generic tunes for AU's, as Im running one, lol. You do have to specify what its for and you'll need to give them the processor codes from your ECU. These are found on the backside of the ecu, which is in the footwell on the passenger side.

i've also got a flash tuner on my totally stock I6....
i've run the 98 octane tune.. and it seemed a little flat i ran the valet tune.. and it still revved to 4000 rpm.. then the whole car jolted.. heh.. i haven't run the 95 tune yet... running factory tune atm.. and it seems to be running better then it ever has.. hehe... it's the wierdest feeling.. coz it seems to just get a kick in power around the 2500 rpm mark.... what fuels were you using when running your different tunes The Monty? |

I've just sent a few emails to different places in adelaide. I have had one reply, they said $1500 for everything and it would probably give me an extra 10kw at the wheels. Tell you the truth, I thought it would be more then 10Kw's. How much is everyone else getting.

The thing is, peak power at the wheels is over rated when it comes to the edit. Sure it might be "only" 10kw peak power, but the delivery of the power, when it comes in, HOW it comes in, tourqe and everything else, add up to make a nice package. It might only make 10 kw, but it will feel like a hell of a lot more when you put the foot down. I doubt I picked up any power at all with the generic tune, but the delivery feels great, smooth all through the rev range, and we'll see how it goes when I go out to willowbank.
Like I said, Ill try a run on the stock tune, and a run on the generic tune, and if the times are much different, well the timecards dont lie. If you have any doubt about how the edit "feels" after it was done, ask Stav or Casper, I think both are using the CAPA flash. My main reason for buying it was to tune the turbo when it goes on, but I thought I'd give it a try in the meantime.

Ok fuel figures for the week that I promised.
Km travelled: 402.3 DTE: 252 Average speed: 59 Avg L/100km: 11.0 (According to climate control read out) Ltrs used: 45.27 Km/L: 8.9 Corrected L/100km: 11.25 DTE when filled up today: 704 After a full week of driving it on the 95 tune, Im still happy with it, fuel use still seems to be the same. I will post up the results of a run at Willowbank on the 2nd of September, after my next run out there. Ill run without it, then with it flashed, so I can see a real comparison between the two. One good thing about today, I couldnt fit $50 worth in using 98 ron, lol. The price was 107.7/L, for 95 it was 101.7/L, and regular was 103.7. Keep in mind I use Ethanol blended fuel, thats why 95 is cheaper then regular.

i'm a bit of a grandma driver anywayz.. hardly see the car above 3000rpm...but i hear what ya saying.. but with generic tunes... i doubt there is much difference in tunes... i know the 98 tune felt flat running 98 octane fuel... i'll fill up on 95 next week.. or perhaps even 98... but will stick with the 95 tune.. see how it runs....

When I tried 98 tune on 95, it pinged pretty bad from 4 g. Only took it there once, pulled over, and flashed the 95 tune in.

Well, as promised, I went to the drags to test it out, and Ill now post up my times. Previous best was a 15.885@88 mph.
Now, I have done other mods than just a generic flash tune. I have put a pod in the box, and cut a hole in the front of it. A lot of people on here argue that it doesnt offer much power, and you may well be right, I wont argue with that one. The sound is nice though. I ran only 34 psi in the rear tonight, and 40 psi in the front. No subs and no jack, as usual, so the weight of the car has not changed. 98 ron fuel, and a generic 98 ron tune off the CAPA flash box from KPM. Runs as follows: RT 60ft 660ft MPH E.T MPH Deg H% RA TT 1.276 2.273 10.011 71.13 15.545 89.27 22 49 814 32 1.487 2.245 9.950 71.20 15.490 89.04 20 53 647 29 1.207 2.216 9.929 71.22 15.457 89.13 19 54 481 28 1.209 2.228 9.903 71.45 15.379 90.16 19 53 321 26 0.673 2.231 9.921 71.32 15.444 89.45 17 70 237 25 0.954 2.276 9.993 71.18 15.504 89.43 16 77 126 25 All runs were done in Economy. Did not do any burnouts, except for the last run, which was just for show. Wasnt worrying about reaction times, just trying to get my stall right instead, which is why they are all so high. Any questions please ask, but Id say for the money, the generic tune of the CAPA flash is a worthy mod. I dropped .501 of a sec, just with the mods as Ive said at the start of this post. I also have got between 600 and 700kms for every tank of fuel Ive used since having the flash installed. I have still got the original extractors (factory jobies) and cat, plus factory Oxy sensor. The car has 215 000 k's on it, and still has the stock gears, and no LSD. Next mod is putting on the 3 inch exhaust and cat, and a set of pacie comps, and see if I can crack the 14's, which I think should be quite achievable. Josh

good times! really sounds like a viable mod to those that cant afford custom tuning.

Video of the last run, it was the second slowest. I put it down to having two quick runs in succesion, and doing a burnout. These cars really hate heat, which is why I got quicker throughout the night, as I was waiting an hour between runs, and the car was cooling down, plus the RA was awesome. Enjoy

i'm still not convinced with my 98 tune.. i've been running the 95 tune for a few weeks now... and it really suprises me when the car hits about 2500 rpm it feels like it has a sudden boost in power... i've also just put some new rims on (17" AU II XR8 rims) and with new tyres on the rear (Maxxis MA-Z1's)... and i can boot it out of a corner and takes off like a rocket... the car is 100% stock... i wouldn't mind getting it out to willowbank one night to do some runs... i'll switch between tunes too if have the chance...
