Hi Guys,
I had the absolute joy of taking Ev's Classic AU with the new 5 speed for a spin this arvo. It was everything I thought it would be and more! If I have to replace the auto in the SR, and the manual conversion is around the same price, I know what I'd rather. The manual (short-shifter equipped) felt fantastic, and the torque of the I6 was great. Ev's car span up pretty quick, even when short-shifting. I got home and went inside, man I couldn't get the grin off my face for half an hour. Very impressive indeed. Ev's car to be fair has a lower diff, extractors, flash tuner and isn't on gas, but I'd still love to see how my SR would go with a 5 speed. Thanks heaps EV, I had an absolute ball! GK

Thanks for the kind words George, and for the tips and help on how to drive a manual properly! As you have said, i am totally wrapped with how the conversion turned out!
For someone who hasn't driven a manual for a fair while, you did an excellent job of hiding it! I was very impressed with the foot work especially, very smooth. It does feel great to have a little bit of power behing the stick shift. It's just so much more fun to spin the engine up a bit! I could tell as soon as we took off that GK was in trouble with this decission. He was almost more excited about it than i was! Just need to get the tune sorted out tomorrow. Taking it in to the flash tune master down at Blue Power to get the touch, then it should be sweet as! Evan |

It would be a waste of time anyway. I would like to learn how to at least shift properly before I run it. With my current skill level, I would be lucky to run under 20 seconds! Evan |

This makes me really want to convert to manual. Just wait for the auto to die then see what happens.

I never said it was going to be fair!! :P
Calder does sound tempting Dan, but i don't have a helmet. Last time i borrowed one from there they took $50 off me for the pleasure! Not going to make that mistake again. |

I just thought i would share my experienc with the manual so far. No use starting another thread.
Axle tramp sucks!! If I try and take off from stationary at anything above grandpa speeds, the entire back of the car bounces around! I never experienced this with the auto. Is it just a manual thing, or has my suspension had it? I was also thinking it could be to with the fact that I still have the 3.73 diff ratio, and that may be too short for the manual. It feels like it is, as I seem to be swapping gears a fair bit. It was even worse when I attempted to do a u-turn in a bit of a hurry, that felt terrible! The back of the car bounced so much it seemed to upset the LSD, as it was swapping from single to twin and didn't know what was going on! Maybe it's just my car and i should quit whinging. Evan |

I had really bad axle tramp in my old manual EL and I had it for a while in the XR too. I found tyre choice has a lot to do with it.

Thanks guys, I didn't think of that. My Pirelli's are pretty much smoked. I guess that will teach me for being a smart ar5e and slipping the clutch in a u-turn! I still have the king's super-low springs sitting in my room. When i get around to it I will get some shorter shocks and fix the rear end. Hopefully that should help things a bit.
