after trolling through countless web pages looking for accommodation for our holiday in feb i thought i'd ask on here for peoples experiences, if any, with apartments/resorts on the coast.
I've stayed at 'the atrium' at southport a few years back and then a couple of years ago stayed at 'sandcastles on broadwater'. both these were pretty good esp the latter but i like to try new places. looking at 4-4.5 star rated places with a budget of around $150/night for 2 bedroom. a lot of the web sites don't give a real good idea of what you actually pay for. so who's stayed where and what was your opinion? |

Mate, if i was you id stick with what you like
A lot of hotels keep track of how often you stay, if you are areturn visitor regurlarly they will offer you a littl ebetter treamtent, return buisness is what they thrive on, and they hate doing things that loose a return customer. Failing that, I have had good stays at Versace, Bel-Air and Sofitel I have also heard good things about Q1, but I expect these are out of your range? Also ring em up, tell them how long you are staying, if your staying a long time they may drop the price a little |

i went to 'the atrium' for about 4 years running and was well looked after like you say but they only get a kitchenette which just doesn't cut it. the sandcastles is pretty new but no real wow factor. i've been heading north for holidays every year for about 9 yrs now and alternate between gold and sunshine coasts. value for money in caloundra is way beyond the gold coast. i stayed in the penthouse at 'the cerulean' in caloundra and now everything else just seems small and plain. i guess because i work reasonably hard for my coin i like to see where its going. can't believe the amount of so called 4 - 4.5 star places that don't even have a/c.
thanks for your input anyway. have browsed those mentioned but like i said, its hard to guage exactly what some places are like just by reading their webpage. basically after something modern with a/c and cable with 2 tv's and all the usual self contained features. @10 nights for around $1500 there is still a fair range to choose from. |

Every time we stay on the Goldie we use timeshare. Just been up there last August. Previously have stayed at Blue Water Bay in Southport (2 br, kitchen w/ stove, oven etc, a/c, 2 storey apt with ensuite etc etc) Don't know price but worth a call maybe. Previously stayed at Mariner Shores resort at Burleigh Heads (pick no. 1). Again, same features as above but no a/c from memory (ceiling fans only but was still pretty comfortable for March). Great location IMO.
Failing that, I guess you're better off going with what you know. Matty

Main Beach, costs nothing and there is no better feeling then waking up to water lapping at your feet and a copper kicking your shoulder. But if you need a few creature comforts "Circle on Cavill" is okay just hexy and the staff are .

got to say staying in Chevron Renaissance was really nice. 3 pools to choose from (2 outdoor, 1 indoor heated), spa's (1 indoor, 1 outdoor, both heated), sauna (his & hers), combined outdoor entertaining area with stainless bbq's (looks over outdoor pool on level 5 and has sea views).
The Chevron has 3 towers. Tower 1 is the one you want to stay in, room sizes are pretty dependant on room configuration you choose and each have their own balcony much the same as other places. Tower 1 has had more dosh spent on it for fit and finish. Location is in the heart of surfers, 1 minute walk from Cavill Ave. I recommend it. I can send you pics if you want too.

chevron renaissance, circle on cavill and pacific views all look nice but unfortunately out of my range.
thanks for the feedback. keep it coming. if you can accompany your feedback with pics that would be great. like they say - a picture speaks a thousand words, and i don't think enough of the web pages use this theory. |

I don't know how many stars it is but I have stayed at The Peninsula next to Q1 at Surfers and it was very nice. Rooms are airconditioned as well.

Yeah I've stayed at Peninsula it's good. The Aegean is good if you can manage to get a renovated apartment - not sure about A/C - ask for unit 25C if possible as I have a fair feeling it's been fully renovated ;)
Other places I could suggest is Avalon, Air on Broadbeach (Best on the Coast, used to live there), Aria, Surfers International... or most of the Breakfree apartments, though their service is probably a bit lacking due to it being a big company.. In terms of location, I'd pick Broadbeach closely followed by Main Beach.. would probably not stay in Southport or Surfers.

Ive stayed at the peninsula before too, but the room I got was sh!t. tenth floor room facing north, stuff all views, stained carpets (really bad staining) furniture falling apart, and customer service was crap. I admit, some rooms are far better than others as they are individually contracted out.
pictures below are from the room we stayed in at Chevron towers. Rooms costed us 150 a night per room. kitchen entrance to pool double shower indoor pool outdoor entertaining area for customers staying outdoor lagoon outdoor lagoon 2 bridge over outdoor lagoon outdoor entertaining over looking lagoon lagoon again another outdoor pool on level 1 outdoor pool on level 1 from other end vanity main bed living room (with my mrs taking a nanna nap on the sofa) ordinary view from our balcony due being on base floor view looking up main road to entrance of cavill mall from our balcony Hope this helps

Get on Wotif.com and go from there. There are $1300 a night rooms going for $300 etc.. Just spent a weekend down the goldy at the Crowne Plaza courtesy of the wotif website.. I think they only go a month in advance but hey, if you can wait till Jan to book, its worth the savings..
View from the balcony, 13th floor Crowne Plaza

blueoval - that looks great. that price is what i'm looking at too but is a fair bit different to the quote given by their website. i realise that sometimes when you ring the places they do offer better deals than the listed price. was that a 1 or 2 bedder as i'm looking for 2 bedroom. might wizz them off an email.
envious - wotif are very last minute so i prefer not to do things that way as could end up painting yourself into a corner. |

that was a 1 bedroom apartment mate. but it was that huge it might as well have been 2 bedroom. The bedroom had its own walk in robe and the kitchen was oversized for what we needed. But the luxuries are there.
I expect the 2 bedroom one to be a bit more, but its well worth paying for IMHO as the location is in the heart of surfers and 1 minute walk from Cavill and the chevron shoppping precinct. we ended up getting starbucks for brekky one morning and I was down there within 30 seconds and back up just as quick. The deal i got was an internet one, but cannot for the life of me remember the site I used. Plus the times/dates you go with have different prices to others. I went during winter, hence the price.

just a tip, dont trust internet prices because some places put them up because of commision. ring up and ask for the best deal.
