so I washed them, sanded them lightly, wiped over with Prepsol, let air out of tyres and slotted index cards between tyre and rim, undercoated, sanded lightly, and sprayed two coats of K+H Urethane Wheel Paint and three coats of clear on them. Turned out very well - batteries are flat in camera or I'd take a pic for you. It's as easy as to do. I'm sure that powder coating would be a better, longer lasting job but that would have cost me more than I paid for the rims. |

2 Pack paints will work fine if you use a good etch primer under them, I use aircraft grade zinc chromate etch primer and have never had any paint chip or flake off, if you decide to take the powder coat route be carefull who does the work, I am constantly having to repaint botched powder coat work.

the "coating" on the factory wheels is just 2 pack. powdercoating would be too thick and heavy for the wheels IMHO

2 pac paint, if the existing paint is in good condition you will only need to scuff this with a scourer prior to repainting. problem with power coating is the work needed to retouch any damage. Most aftermarket alloy wheels are painted in 2 pac.

What would you use to fill in any scrapes/gouges etc...??
A friend of mine works at a powdercoat factory and said he could do mine for around $200. Dunno if thats cheap or not, I guess it must be, mates rates and all. More of a hassle to remove tyres and such, so i might go for the 2 pac option instead. Well whatever i decide to do i'm going for white rims either way.
