Shamelessly stolen from elsewhere, allegedly a lost and found poster put up by a foreign student who hadn't been here in Australia very long.

Google the number, it's the "talking clock", though operated by a private service, not Telstra.
"AUSTRALIA: "Talking Clock" on 1194 (about 40 cents per call) and commercial services on 1900 912 000 and 1900 911 481 (much higher cost). Since early 2006 the services on on 1194, 1900 912 000 and 1900 911 481 are derived from a dedicated time server operated by a private company (separate from the main telephone carriers), as maintained by the National Measurement Institute (formerly the CSIRO National Measurement Laboratory). To the best of our (April 2006) information, this time signal is stated to be accurate to 1 millisecond (0.001 second) when the time pips enter the public switched telephone network at the source in Melbourne."

I had one of those frigging things launch itself at my head the other night while I was doing the laundry... I ducked and the stupid thing went flying over my head and smacked into the railing

Hahaha!
My dad has one that keeps eating his home-veggie tomatoes in his backyard. He's been feeding it bread every night recently to lull it into a 'false sence of security' (before striking!) ... that was two months ago...think he's getting fond of the animal! :P |

I have "cats" living in my roof, too many trees around my house. The things make the strangest noise too!
