Default Removing Side Skirts & "Tickford Flares"

Hey guys,

Just wondering whats involved in removing my current side skirts (tickford with the flare up the door) as i want to replace them with TE50 Skirts. Its mainly the flare on the door im worried about. These are "Glued" on with something arent they? What do i have to do to get it & the glue off??? Will the doors need a re-spray afterwards???

Cheers

Col.

If there factory fitted you will probably find there stuck on with black stic a flex type stuff if thats the case it has been known to a survive nuclear strike.. you have to bend them back and cut it off.. getting it of the paint is worse some solvents will make it go soft but may take paint off with it : . check out your local auto paint store to see what they recommend .. with any luck they could allso be stuck with a 2 sided tape much easyer to get off an the residue will come of with prepsol or wax and grease remover.. good luck with it

The EF rear door 'pods' were sicaflexed on, and there was also a hole drilled through the door with a screw holding the pod onto the door, if you open the rear door and look in the bottom corner you should be able whether there is one or not.

If it's sicaflexed on a razor blade is useless, sicaflex is incredibly tough. It's best to slide a long sharp knife (not *too* sharp lol) in between the door and the pod and 'carve' the sicaflex (like a roast). Make sure to bias the knifes blade towars the pod and put heaps of masking tape on the door and side mouldings [and door pod if you want it in good nick to resell] you dont want to accidentally scratch anything up.

Once the pod's off mask around the sikaflex residue on the door and carefully slice it away as much as possible. Once theres only patchy sicaflex residue you can get it off pretty easily. I use orange power citrus cleaner on sikaflex which softens it but doesnt affect the paint, then rub at the residue with your fingers, nails until you get it off (it's time consuming and not alot of fun)

As you can see the tickford flares dont really match up to the rear bar. Not to mention that the current side skirts have an indentation where the tickford flares sit over. The TE50 side skirts dont have this so they have to be removed.
