Default Thinking of buying a Monaro.

Hi guys ,hate to shock you too much but I,m thinking of buying an 03 monaro after being offered it for a very good price.I am a dedicated ford man and currently own four fords.I have never ever owned a commondore and the closest I came was owning a gemini many years ago. While a am a ford man I dont mind the look of the monaro and was very impressed when I first saw the prototype at the Sydney motor show many years ago.Just for the record my pride and joy is my 67 xr v8 fairmont,I also own a very nice p6 ltd which i am thinking of selling.Over the years I have driven many friends cars of holden decent being old school monoro,xu1 and some commondores.I am having it inspected on tuesday and will go from there. So what do you guys think?

IMO the monaro is a very nice car. Ignore any 2 door commodore remarks, they have much better lines than a commo could ever have. My dad just bought a yellow HSV GTO, with the 6L engine (297kw, its a beast!), and its the nicest car I've seen around that isn't stupidly priced. The only thing about the earlier models is I dont like the interior much, I'm not sure if 03 has the VY style interior. And you can't go past an LS1 for mods.

don't feel bad about it... if ford made a product that was on the same par as the monaro you'd probably buy that instead... not your fault they don't!

i'm considering a VZ R8 or GTO because in MY personal opinion the FPV's just aren't 'exclusive' enough over the XR's

A mate of mine used to own a red HSV GTO which was a very impressive car.Unfortunately both are now gone, but he did not die in the monaro if thats what you were thinking.

dave289 I'm Ford but I'm not a tribal one eye.
I was considering the CV8 when they came out but having 3kids the rear seats just don't go for the times they are in my car over the weekends.
If I could have one in the garage I would no worries, don't like the ones with extra plastic etc but a clean CV8 with 20's lowered a couple of inches looks sweet !

My parents recently bought an 04 VY CV8-Z. Beautiful car. Rides nicely, great interior, goes well and has really good economy (around the 11 litres per 100 k's). I'd go for it if the price is right.

I find it hard to believe 11 litres per 100 k's,maybe on the highway. My ba six chews about 16-17 per 100k's in the city.and yeh the price is right.

ls1's putting down the freeway use very little fuel... in fact i'd go as far to say that a LS1's highway fuel economy is better than that of a BA 6

If I was gonna spend money on a Holden (not including HSV), it would be the Monaro. I just love the look of them. Go for it I say.

Mate, go for it if its the right price and what you want, not just the price.

Its you coin and your life, you only get one go at life. Look at it this way, if you don't buy it, and think that in the future you will go, I should have brought it, then buy it.

No one in their right mind in going to flame you for getting a Monaro, after all its not a Club****, oops I mean Clubsport

TBH the Ford V holden rivalry is kind of annoying. No one cares if you drive a daewoo (ok, maybe a little bit ) If you think it looks good and drives well, why not. Badges are just a $20 piece of plastic.
Monaros are a great car and are also fking hot.

I added the 5.0 comparison figure because my driving habits haven't changed. The figure does have some highway driving, but the average speed is something like 38 km/hr.

It was poorer economy (~12.8) until the first 15k service.

The monaro offered to me is as follows:cv8 03 series 2 or maybe series 3 im not sure but the owner is going to email me the build date so I will know for sure. Its purple haze,5.7 auto ,1 owner, books, full service history with 70k.And the price is for a neat 20k exactly.so you can now see why I would be crazy not to buy this car.

Geezus. If you don't want it, buy it for $20k, and sell to someone on here for $23k.

Sounds very good, almost too good to pass up.

20k?!!?!?! Is it stolen or something?
make sure you get a full inspection done on it before you buy.

Im getting an inspection done on tuesday afternoon .I have been in the car a bit over a year ago.I know the owner personally and he said the dealers would probably give him about 25 or so and said he would rather me have it.he is quite well off and is not short of money so to speak.so as you can see its hard to pass up an offer like that as they dont come around every day.And he's not the sort of person that would drive the vehicle hard and it has always been garaged.

No need ,if the inspection comes up alright i will be buying the car.The guy is a very honest person and has told me that there is nothing wrong with it that he knows of.He is the one that insisted i get the inspection done first to make sure everything was alright.
