Thought you all might find it interesting to know the Mondeo sales results for July and some of its competitors. YTD figures in the second list:
Mondeo - 309 Epica - 259 Accord - 788 Mazda 6 - 772 Liberty - 477 Camry - 1,912 Mondeo - 2,827 Epica - 1,591 Accord - 5,050 Mazda 6 - 6,452 Liberty - 4,317 Camry - 13,683 Not a particularly strong result. 200 down on June....... |

Rapscallion - don't suppose you would have the breakdown on the models for the Mondeo? The reason I ask, is my dealer told me only about 30 XR5s come in a month and hence why I had a January to May wait.

Suspect Mondeo sales numbers are supply related.
Unless you are willing to accept dealer demo floor stock, there seems to be a long wait. Must be runnig dry waiting for next boat |

I just tried to post the autonews link but when I review the message it changes to the vfacts link, which doesn't work. Weird.

I've just added to the next figures - don't know if that will be August (order) or November (delivery) :-)

I think sales figures are based on registrations, if so yours will count in November. |

salutations - it will be a tdci hatch in chill, with bluetooth and 1600kg towpack. Not sure about the paint protection pack and tinting just yet. I'm in Perth.
delivery time is in november for my specific requirements, I think they could have delivered in October. |

Toyota's, Honda's and Mazda's own this segment. Taking nothing away from the likes of the Mondeo, but the target consumers aren't used to even considering a Ford in this segment. Even the smaller car segment has the same problem but to a lesser degree with the Focus. The family size 6cyl segment is an example where the opposite occurs with the Falcon.
With the mid size segment reliability is king and emotion doesn't tend to drive, or motivate the target consumer into action. These buyers think with their head and purchase within their comfort zone. Ford's challenge is to become part of this comfort zone which requires a reasonably dramatic shift in thinking from the buyers to pull off. Unfortunately for the Mondeo, buying one is a risky and an unfamiliar choice regardless of its quality attributes.

Are those that buy the 3 you mentioned are replacing their existing models, maybe those like me that purchased the Mondeo are from bigger vehicles! that's what those figures don't show

Ford is aware of this challenge with the Mondeo but have yet to embark on an effective campaign to re-educate the consumers. From an advertising standpoint, one strategy that has been used in the past has been ’vehicle comparison' campaign, designed to compare a market leader with the new kid on the block (i.e the newer unknown offering). The focal point of these campaigns is to directly compare the known, or perceived influencing points of the market leader of that segment (i.e. Camry), and educate buyers that the new kid ( i.e. the Mondeo), can address, and better this with a clear tangible advantage to the consumer. The campaign is aimed to get the new kid on the shopping list first and foremost.

A quality panel shop can apply the paint protection for a faction of the price that the dealer will charge you, same for the tint. Package it all up if you like but you will pay at least double what its actually worth. |
