yep the speedo will be out by 10%.
so when the needle reads 55 you will be doing 50, 66 - 60 so on and so forth. apparently people can re program them but i havnt really looked into it. been meaning to for about 18 months now as i have a T series fascia in my car lol

if its the one with the oil pressure gauge, you need to change teh switch and AFAIK u need to run a new wire for that oh and Volt gauge

Well the Farimont and XR gauge should both have the oil pressure switch though.

On wiring chat, shows high series cluster with XR only with these extra 4 wires.fairmont not.Cant work out what they are. For example,DTE is on XR cluster, fairmont its on computer display on dash. XR cluster dosnt work with with fairmont dash. Dunno if its a wiring thing or theres something in cluster different. Im trying to figer it out:-p |

is your fairmont dash out of a 6cyl? that may be the difference
does your ute have a low coolant sensor?

if you put an xr cluster into a fairmont/fairlane you lose the dte and what ever else it shows plus the interior lights don't seem to come on either

Series 1 or 2/3? Series 1 had low, mid and high clusters, whereas series 2 and 3 just had low and high. Interesting that XR won't work in Fairmont if it's series 2/3. The difference might be in the door ajar sensors, the display of which gear you're in on the cluster on the fairmont, or DTE etc. There's no difference b/w 6 or 8 cylinder models though. Good luck.
As far as putting the XR or Tickford fascia on a normal Fairmont cluster, I asked about getting the speedo reset to work on the 240 dial, but was told by the speedo place it's not do-able? Obviously it can be done, since the T's had it from factory, but not sure how to go about getting it done. Out of curiosity, does the T1 cluster tell you what gear you're in down on the main LCD screen, since there's no opening for the gear LCD like in the Fairmont? |

Anyone know any new answers ?
Ive asked my local ford dealer and there ganna try serch the answer........but havent heard back, It has to be the cluster itself im thinking....... As i said, i brought a white tickford fascia. Ive recived item and its silver.......... I brought off ebay and the discription was white....... Contacted seller, the reply was white, silver its all the same :jab: What a %&$# head........ http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....EOIBSA:AU:1123 beware of that seller...Dodgey: I left negative feed back and noticed rest of items seller had for sale he removed. So im guessing he knew white would sell when it was silver.....and will get new ID and do it again....... |

I hear what you're saying re misrepresentation, but the genuine ones were silver, so I'd be more upset if I bought one and it was white!

So I should be over the moon with silver ? lol
After 3 hours serching reading about clusters,my head hurts :-p I think I could be on to something,im ganna pull 2 clusters apart and make one lol The XR lcd display is same as base. Fairmont has a full high series lcd display, more futures,eg door ajar and what door. So ganna put the fairmont lcd display in the XR and hopfully it might work........... if not i give up :-) no idea if im right, try and see....... Ill see tomorrow if it works, fingers cross. |

But from what I sort of understand, Forte, base XR,mid Fairmont, high. I know we call XR /fairmont clusters both high series....... Fairmont uses the same shape Instrument Dials as the Mid Series Cluster(xr), but has a uniqe LCD Panel, that includes a Door ajar, Boot open, and Fuel Flap Open Warning.(im guessing XR does not show these featers?)when i plug into fairmont, fairmont is giving XR cluster readings it cant show/read and goes silly ? This warning system utilises a Diagram of a sedan, and shows which door, (Driver's, Passenger, and Back Doors, indepentant of each other Its worth a try.........? |

Ive figered out the difference.
For everyone that said there the same there not. Ive opened both clusters up,the fairmont has different circuits soldered compare to the XR. Fairmont has 6 different circuits soldered. You could solder the XR to be the same, but im not game lol Any advice soldering circuit boards ? |

Same circuirt board, but different parts solderd.
XR Fairmont You see the resistor joining to circuits on the fairmont,as XR has it but not joined, There's about 6 of these along the circuit. J car sells these which you can solder to the XR. Than you have the eeorom which is the big chip that holds information,eg km's and guessing controls the speed reading. I dont know what other information this chip holds?. As Iam thinking unsolder eeorom(chip)from my orginal XR cluster from ute, which has orginal Kms and should hold the 240km/h reading and solder into the fairmont cluster. Very doable. Its all interesting |

Sounds feasible to me. What about issues with the DTE / climate control? The door ajar think will be interesting, since Fairmont's had sensors on each door and tell you on the cluster which door is ajar, whereas XR's just light up all 4 to tell you one is open. Can you work out with a wiring diagram which circuits do what? This is getting pretty complex!
To be honest before you started this thread I was under the impression XR clusters worked fine in Fairmonts in series 2 and 3, but you've demonstrated otherwise. There was a member who had a Tickford cluster (blue fascia, so series 2/3) in his Fairmont. I can't remember his name, it was a gold Fairmont in Brisbane, had a T3 front on it. Janos or something? |

I've just realised where some of the confusion is coming from. I'm thinking of putting XR clusters into Fairmonts, but yours is a ute is that right? So trying to put a Fairmont dash with a Tickford fascia into a ute?
