Default Queensland (Cairns) Floods 12/01/2009

Pretty much stuck at work haha.

Had 300mm+ I a 24 hour period. Trying to find out if the way home is still open.

Get rid of it all now please. I've booked in for the week of 9-13 of Feb. And it rained for a week last time I was there in 01.

soggy doggy......

There was a prediction that it would be a bit wet up until May. Funny thing is that it was soggy in 1998 and before that in 1987 and before that in 1976.

Can't be sunspots, not sure how tax them.......

Must be global warming

That last pic shows when a 4WD with snorkel comes in handy! (Edit - I realise they don't have snorkels...)

How do the tropical North Queensland members with lowered/performance/etc cars cope with the occasional cyclones/floods? Any horror stories?

Not a performance car, but my work ute has seen it's fair share of water crossings.
Not a good feeling when the front end lifts off the ground! Turned into it, and it started moving the ute towards the traffic island. Slotted it into first & held it flat.
Managed to pull through, only just!

My EL has had a bit of a hard time in the rain. Last year I had the coil pack go in Innisfail, the BCM go about 3 times while it was raining until it was replaced and the selector switch in the gearbox went possibly from driving through water. Last year was not fun but hopefully most of the issues are sorted now.

My place on the northside of cairns is fine and dry but my fiance says she is getting an invasion of worms from the garden going to higher ground!

I had planned on driving from Cairns to Mackay on thursday but will have to hope the rain eases a little before then otherwise there is no way I will be getting through.

August, September, October are the most popular time for tourist and the dryest. Doesn't mean it won't rain though!

Personally I would come end of July/August. Still min temps of about 21 and max of 26 and the wet season has usually cleared out by early July. Sept, Oct it would be getting a bit hot for folk from the south.

Looks like QLD has lost it's "always warm weather" touch eh?

Melbourne has 37 tomorrow and 39 on Wednesday. I'd rather have the rain than the heat.

Nice pics, should pipe some of that water to our dams ;)

Just a good old fashioned wet season, I reckon

Floods in all the usual places, nothing new there.

Still raining now

Another thing that never changes is idiots in 4wds driving through "Road Closed" signs and seeing who can be the biggest tool.

Yep! My mate in his 4wd picked me up in the morning so the XR stayed at home tucked away safely =)

The flood waters I posted up, that was a fair bit of salt water too. It's tidal there and it was a king tide. So a lot of cars would have been written off. Isn't it something like once salt water reaches your door sills, it's a write off?

I feel for anyone who has it in their home. I only just moved back into my unit after we had 230mm in 4hrs and it was coming in my front door. We had to move out, and thankfully after 1 month came back with new furniture and carpet etc on christmas eve.

I don't mean to be a smart **** but EL's don't have coil packs, they went back to distributors for EL.

ELs do have a coil, which is probably what he meant.
