Cool Hi Tech Cam

Haven't seen these before, but I may have missed the thread. Testing on the Maroondah Hwy. between Croydon and Dorset Rds. Could use some down my street :

From what I read it only logs the speed and ranks the car by the axis #.
It could be used to monitor traffic (flow and other statistics), to raise revenue it'd have to be equipped with a camera to record rego #

I drive past that one everyday. Just before you get to it there is a nice big warning sign stating that speed cameras are being tested in this area.
I'll grab a photo of the entire site.

Angry Melbourne's new super Speed cameras - Locations

Watch out!

Please note that the Police are testing a new speed camera system.

It's a cylindrical pole about 2m high with 3 Perspex stripes on it (the cameras are hidden; one for each lane of the highway), and there's some matching sensors on the far side of the road in the gutter.

Here's what it looks like :

More details on how it works here if you're interested.

I can see some great safety benefits here. You will no longer require an extension ladder and someone holding the bottom of it just to disable a camera unit.

They have finally taken into account OH&S issues with these things. :hihi:

I don't see what would stop a pest from spray painting the perspex lens covers, just to protest against the revenue raising. :
