(Vic) Great Ocean rd - 7/3/10

Okay whos keen on this, I will suss out a route for this or if any1 else got ideas, chuck em up. Let us know what you think of the date if it suits, it is on labour day w/e.

Change of date: 14/3/10

just realised it's a big 243km drive from 1 end to the other, so it would be a big drive.

but you know you want to come.

why change the date ill make the time to come just gonna ahve to miss my brothers bday on the 14th :P

to anyone interested we could plan a pre meet at docklands take a few pics, and then head over to geelong ( about a 1 hour drive ) have a break and to meet everyone else who choses to take the fairy or others who find it closer to travel to. then from their we can head towards torquay.

if theirs interest please post idea's.

how far down the GOR do you want to go??
i wanna do this drive as havent done it b4 but i come from mornington peninsula so add like 2-3 hours on top of the actual cruise if i drive the whole way around.

if its on the 21st ill probly come, gives me time to save some $$$ to book a hotel for the night as i got heaps on this month, i wont have the $ if its any earlier.

Yeah thats ok. Im from morno so I have a fair hike too. Theres always the fairy too. Im pretty new to the GOR myself and yes will be a fair hike for other members. We can chose to book acommodation (if so it would be best for a saturday). I am considering the 20/21st which will give us a lot of notice.

To travel the whole great ocean road, what do you guys think?

You do realise its a 3 hour trip to Apollo Bay from Docklands with no stops.
This would make most sense if we were to meet up at Docklands say 11ish, make our way to G'town, stop for a bit, then plod along to Fairhaven, stop again and then snake along to Apollo Bay.

Yeah, will look into that. Well it would be 1 hour to geelong meet guys there. How long is it to the start of GOR from geelong?

im ok for any time on a sunday but onsaturdays it ahs to be afternoon

either saturday or sunday suit me that weekend as i have an RDO on the monday

i think we have a route lol. i think a sunday will suit most people.

rough idea -
- 10-10.30am, meet at docklands
- 11am, head to geelong, approx. 1 hour drive
- 12ish arrive at geelong, have lunch for a good hour or so
- 1-1.30pm, head to fairhaven, approx 1 hour drive
- 2-2.30, stop for 1/2 hour and find a park
- 3ish, head to apollo bay, approx. 1 hour drive.
- arrive to destination.

from there we can stick around for an hour or 2 (or even stay the night) and head back whenever.

im not much of a camper myself, unless theres a slab and a massive out-of-control fire ,with no bushland of course.

i would prefer the later date.... would most likely stay in geelong at the missus place so i'd just meet you guys there... i drove it a few wks ago from geelong to appollo bay, and i was shagged by the time i got home that nite.... and i've driven from brisbane to melbourne by myself so im not being a sook lol....

it is a tiring drive coz its not straight, ur constantly on ur toes.... i reckon going to apollo bay is far enough, it seemed to get a little boring wen i got close to there....road straightened out a bit....

but anyway thats my useless 2c lol
