Got this email today.For Ford buffs it might be interesting

1936 Stainless Steel Ford


This is the 1936 Ford Tudor Sedan built for and owned
by Allegheny Ludlum Steel. This is 1 of only 4
in existence and is the only one currently in
running & in road worthy condition. The car
is in exceptional condition, with the interior
and even the frame looking great. All 4 cars
each had over 200,000 miles on them before they
removed them from service.
These cars were built for Allegheny as promotional and
marketing projects. The top salesmen each year
were given the honour of being able to drive them
for one year. The v-8 engine (max 85 hp) ran
like a sewing machine and was
surprisingly smooth and quiet. I
thought this was a much better looking
auto-mobile than the Ford Thunderbird that
visited us last year. FYI, the car was insured
(we were told) for the trip to Louisville via
covered trailer for 1.5 million
dollars.

We were also told that
the dies were ruined by stamping the stainless car parts,
making these the last of these cars ever
produced.

That '36 Ford is absolutely stunning. They don't make them pretty like that anymore.

Well there you go. I thought the DeLorean was the only stainless steel car produced (maybe it still retains that, as these were not regular production). Interestingly, it lso had a Ford engine in it. Now I know though that it wasn't the first.

the dmc-12 wasnt really made of stainless, it was fiberglass with stainless sheet stuck over the top for cosmetic effect. the engine wasn't a ford, it was some crappy Peugeot v6. would probably be a better car with a small block ford in it though ;)

nice 36 ford up the top of the page.

the deloreon was stainless, all exterior panels. i have repaired one.
only the floorpan was compressed fibreglass/plastic
motor was volvo v6, suspension was mainly ford cortina bits
they even came with a delorean brand scotchbrite pad in the toolkit for fixing scratches....

Yeah you're both right about the engine. I must have been confused with the even more awesome DeTomaso (Pantera/Pantera GT-5). Did not know about the fibreglass usage, and it was still an extremely heavy car!
